My dog lives with 5 cats, and prefers eating their food and their poop. He has his own food, but won't touch it.
Any advice? Can this hurt him?

the cat food is fine...the poop is very unnutricious but, unless your cats have certain worms, it priobably won;t hurt...you might try sprinkling some of the poop with vineger or some other gross substane .although not much grosser than poop but try vineger or small amounts of a hot pepper solution.

I sure know hot pepper stops that stuff right after one taste. Unless your dog is like my old one use to be and love hot peppers. LOL(he's steal them we didn't give them to him)

Re: dog prefers cat food and poop
This post reminded me when our puppers were brand new, they tended to want to chew on the rungs of the kitchen chairs. So, in my wisdom, I got out the can of jalapenos and painted a good coating of the pepper sauce all over the rungs.
Next thing I knew, both puppers were happily licking the pepper sauce off the rungs, and then chewed them some more!
I finally solved the problem by slipping some PVC pipe over the rungs. It didn't taste so good. Problem solved.

Keep the cat food dishes out of reach to the dog, if necessary keep them on a countertop or put away when the cats are not eating from them. Not only is this an encouraging behavior for the dog if the dishes are left for his perusal, but it's not exactly great for the cats.
