Things are great! Bear has really changed my life. I've been able to go shopping and be in large groups of people without any problems. My therapist says that she can even tell a difference just looking at me, that I look more comfortable.

Bear has been going everywhere with me. The only time we've been separated at all is I have to leave him in the car for about 10 minutes when I go in to get my allergy shots, and then last night my roommate took him out for his walk because I've got an awful cold. Other than that, he's been right by my side (or at least wandering in the general vicinity).

He is an absolute attention hound. He is very well behaved, but the times that he slips up, it is because he is looking for somebody to pet him. I just had about 10 people in a conference room for office hours, and he laid down for a while, then kept getting up to make the round around the table to get some love. Shameless.

Bear had his first bath today, which went pretty well. He wasn't terribly amused about getting all wet, but he stood there and took it. He absolutely loved the getting dry part. He just laid there while I toweled him off.

He's a little weird with his food. Most dogs that I've seen just jump on their food and eat it right away, but he'll sit around and wait. Sometimes he'll lay down next to his bowl and wait an hour or more to eat. But then once he starts, he certainly seems to enjoy it. I guess he's just waiting until he's hungry. It's funny, because he watches the bowl even when he's not eating, to make sure that the cat doesn't eat any of his food. He's definitely saving it for later.

He absolutely loves walks, and he loves squirrels a little too much. He gets so excited outside that I can't take him to the dog park. I took him once, and I couldn't catch him. He was so happy to be running around that he wouldn't come. So for now it's just walks on the leash. I'm going to take him over to my friend's fenced yard next week.

We went last week and visited the firefighters, who were all very excited to see him. Hopefully, they'll never get to see him again! But I was told to take him down there and introduce him, just in case. He also went to the vet and we dropped off his records and introduced him there.

Tomorrow, we are flying to Washington DC, so that will be an adventure! He got to practice going through security when we got his license (the country treasurer is in the courthouse, with metal detectors at the door). But we don't know if he's ever been on a plane before. Fortunately, this is a very good first flight. No connections, and it's only 1.5 hours. I'm going to a conference down there, so he'll be a big help. Lots of people! I'm also going to be presenting a paper, so he'll get to get up on stage with me to do that. I think we might be going to the zoo, too, which might be interesting. And maybe he'll get to take the subway.

I've taken a few pictures, but I haven't had time to put them on my computer yet. You'll have to wait until next week for those.

Oh I am so glad he is doing well...and you SOUND soooo HAPPY!!

Have fun and good luck in DC.....it can be an intimidating place...I should know...I grew up about 30 miles south of there, and was back 7, almost 8, years ago and would NOT want to be living there now...just DRIVING the Beltway was horrific enough

Oh and if you can make it...the Smithsonian is AWESOME....but then.,..I figure I would need at least a WEEK just to do that....

the art museum is another beautiful place....

Tambrey has been there more recently than I have so I can just imagine, but some things don't change: in addition to the Smithsonian and museums, tour the Custis-Lee mansion at Arlington if you can, and go out to MT. Vernon...

I am so glad to know Bear is doing well. Congratulations!
