Re: Moving help!
Leaving tomorrow. Spending the night in Tulsa, then heading toward St. Louis. Then Detroit from there. Will get there on Tuesday, and won't leave again until Sunday. Will have the cat and the U-haul.
I really miss my mom. Moving down here has been great, but I've never been this far from my family. It's hard adjusting.
But, it's really, really worth it. So I'll tough it out. And it'll be okay eventually. I think I'll feel better once I'm settled into the permanent place. And when I have Izzy with me again.
Mom told me today that she's had Izzy sleeping in the bed with her. Great, now I have to break her of that habit... lol. I'm fine with my allergies unless she's on my bed sheets. Then I get all sneezy and congested. Thanks, Mom... lol.

Re: Moving help!
I'm in Detroit! And as soon as Izzy realized it was me calling her, she curled up in my arms for about a half hour, clinging with claws into my arm.
And once she had enough, I haven't seen her since. LOL. Mom says she's sleeping on my bed. Silly cat.
Tomorrow, I'll get a carrier and start getting her used to the idea of it. We aren't leaving here 'til Sunday. I'll keep y'all posted. I'm very glad to have her back with me, though. Man, did I ever miss her.

I'm so excited. I hope your trip goes well and uneventful. Don't forget Kitty in cage before the door or windows are ever open. Kitty in cage to and from the hotel as well with a locked cage.

Re: Moving help!
Bah... my parents don't have a clue about cats. They've fed her and cleaned her litterbox for the past month, but they haven't given her any affection or played with her or anything. She's half-feral; she protests loudly whenever I try to pick her up. She even hissed She is disinterested in cuddling. She will come sit near me, but the most she'll freely allow me to do is scratch her head. She'll make kissy-eyes at me from the window sill, but she doesn't want to cuddle at all.
Sigh. There's no chance of moving her down calmly. She's going to be half-traumatized no matter what I do. And when I do finally get her down to Texas, I'm going to have to completely resocialize her. It's amazing what one month can do to an animal's personality. I feel terrible for leaving her here now. She was cared for, sure, but she wasn't loved.
I've been keeping her in the bedroom with me as much as possible, forcing her to be around me, though she's still got the windows to look out of and toys to play with. She'll come and walk by me and rub up against me, but if I reach out a hand, she takes off. It's gonna take some time...

Re: Moving help!
Now THAT'S more like it! First night in a hotel, just a little west of Indianapolis. First place we found that allowed pets. Wanted to get a little further down the road, but the weather got too bad and we didn't want to risk it while pulling the trailer.
Let Izzy out of her carrier once we were in the room, and she sniffed about for a little while. Used the litterbox. Ate some food. Drank some water...
And then came and nuzzled up and cuddled with me for most of the night! This is more like the cat I know and love. She was so snotty and stand-offish at my parents' house. But now that I got her out of there, she's all head-butts and snuggles again. She's even starting to take to my boyfriend, who has never in his life been around cats before and is just as nervous with her as she is with him. When I got out of the shower, she was sitting next to him giving his hand little head-butts. They're so cute together, neither one knowing what to make of the other but both trying to figure it out... LOL.
I feel much better about all of this. Of course, she'll likely be angry at me again when it comes time to get her in the carrier... boy, does she HATE that thing. But I got one of the feliway spray things and gave her a towel with a few sprays of it, and she snuggles right into that thing. She was okay in the truck for the first leg. Just kinda chilled. She only meowed when I got out of the truck to go to the bathroom, but once I was back, she was fine.
Two, maybe three more days to go, depending on how far we can get today. I HATE TOWING THIS TRAILER!!! Ugh. I'm never doing this again...

Re: Moving help!
Y'all are on the road somewhere today and I feel bad that I didn't post in time: wanted to tell you about a chain of motels called Super 8: Yes, they are not by any means 'top of the line' - but they are clean and reasonably well-run, and they always take PETS! I gotta say, they saved our bacon several times when we ran from Katrina - when my minvan had tire trouble by Birmingham, a member of our party in another car called ahead on her cell phone, and with all the thousands of Gulf Coast evacuees, we were given separate rooms for 4 adults, 3 dogs, a cat and a cockatoo! So some of us ended up with them during the rest of our exodus...

LOL, E's, surprisingly enough... we tried a Super 8 last night, and right on the door, it says NO PETS ALLOWED. There was a hotel next door that let us stay, so it wasn't a big inconvenience, but apparently not all of them do.
