Hello
I'm a new cat owner and the cat that I adopted is very timid. She spends most of her time hiding. She hides the most under my bed and the question I have is would it be okay for me to put something up to prevent her from spending most of her time under the bed, or is it better to let her have her hiding space ?
There are other places that she hides but not like she does under the bed.
New Cat Owner Question
Re: New Cat Owner Question
Congratulations...
I would let her stay in a place she is feeling safe, as long as there is nothing to get hurt on or trapped in....
leave food, water and her litterbox within easy reach, preferably in the same room as where she is comfortable for now...
It will take her sometime to adjust....possibly weeks....in the meantime, just go sit in the room....on the floor or a chair nearby and read or do whatever....talk gently to her when you see her, but do not make a move towards her...let her come to you....in time, she will....it just takes lots of patience...
How old is she? Where did you adopt her from? Has she had a vet checkup yet and how is she physically? And most important....please keep her INDOOR ONLY!!!

Re: New Cat Owner Question
Hello
I haven't had a chance to take her to the vet yet, i have only had her for a few days. I got her from a shelter in NJ and they say she is around a year old. I believe she was a stray and I know she has had one pregnancy. She had a tapeworm and was starving when she was found. She seems healthy though.
She eats, drinks water, and uses the litter box without any problems. She is not very social, yet, and is afraid of cat toys and just about everything else, including me, most of the time.

Only a few days???? Give her time!! In a month or 2 she will be out of hiding
She may never get over her timidity but with just the family around her she will come out of her shell eventually. Have patience
