That's a really nice poem. I think older dogs need someone at least as much as the younger ones do.
When I first took in Angel, I really didn't know if I would be able to love her the same way I loved all the ones I had known as puppies. It did take a little while. I was sitting by her petting her one day about a month after she had come to live with us, and this feeling came over me and I knew then that I loved her. I really can't describe it, but she found her way into my heart and I knew I loved her from that moment on. She was so sweet and so gentle. And such a little sneak! She had such a lovely smile. She was with us for 9 wonderful years and was definitely a senior citizen when she died, and I still miss her so very, very much.

I haven't had a puppy in many years, sometimes I am tempted, but the older dogs have a harder time finding homes. I must admit that I haven't adopted a senior citizen because it is so painful to loose a pet. Hopefully I can open my heart for one soon.
