Traci is right in what she says about Thyroid issues. I just wanted to let you know that from experiencing this with my own kitty years ago and MYSELF having Hyperthyroidism that please don't stress over this. The meds might need to be tweeked in order to get the right dose but it will eventually get better. Methimazole(Tapazole) I am assuming the dr has kitty on can have side effects so please speak with dr. about them and have mom talk to dr. about eating as well. I do know that changes in bowel movements happen when on Tapazole and sometimes it can be quite a pain.

If it has been 4 weeks since last testing please make sure dr runs another test to make sure the meds are the right dose. Tapazole can make anyone/any animal feel sick even to the point of throwing up. It might be that kitty was given meds without food in tummy OR given with food in tummy and thus causing upset.

Please make sure kitty is eating, since you said it was foam, I would think kitty's tummy was empty which is not good to have when you have hyperthyroidism. Weight loss can still occur rapidly if the meds are not adjusted properly. Keep journal of weight and hair loss and any other symptoms that mom sees.

Hyperthyroidism is NOT fun but it is treatable as long as the vet takes the time to keep checking. Tapazole is not a drug to be put on and then left alone for the rest of the kitty's life. It is a serious disease and needs to be checked frequently. Even if meds are at a good dose and thyroid level is looking good , blood work should still be done depending on what your vet wants every 3-6 months. It angers me that some vets say i'll see you next year but that is just absurd, any animal on thyroid meds should be checked more frequently.

Good luck.

Please Please tell mom that she will have to groom kitty herself. Hyperthyroisism causes lethargy. It causes you to not want to do things you would normally do because you are so tired. Or kitty might only have enough energy to run and play but not groom. Please make sure he gets a bath which will help the dirt get released from his fur and then a good brushing. No more than bath though. If she does not want to wash him then she needs to start brushing him once a day to make sure dead hair is getting pulled out and not left there in chunks. Sometimes when you groom them they will start to groom themselves, tell her that she should still continue to groom him till she sees that he is doing it more frequently.

Hugs for kitty!
