Late Night Visitor and Unexpected Introductions

Post by Tambrey »

Well....we have had excitement this evening

Taz and Mystique went berzerk on the back porch so hubby went to investigate....we had an unexpected visitor and had to quickly shoo Taz and Mystique into the kitchen...with only the wood half door with the kitty hole dividing those two from Ghost and Sammie...Now, Taz and Mystique have met Sammie before, but never Ghost....
Thankfully, since they are all so well used to critters coming and going, there was not even a bark...just sniffing noses through the kitty door...of course, Taz and Mystique were more interested in the food in the cat dishes, the garbage and whatever else they could find...but I had to let them be and concentrate on helping DH with our back porch visitor....

Yep...you can hear me yelling at Mystique in this first one

A scared little bugger...but CUTE!!

It was hanging onto a rake handle and would not let go, so hubby just picked it up and put it into the old garbage can with some dog food in it

oops bad word in this one

omygosh! Did he climb into the garbage can? (on the porch)
That was quite something!!! I agree he was a cute little critter, but lucky he ran into you 2 who treated him so well. I probably would have run like I did when I saw a raccoon on the porch.

No....actually, I wish I had seen how he even got onto the back porch....he would have had to get INTO the kennel...we figure he was in a tree and fell in....then he had to wander over to the ramp up into the back porch...but then climb in through the dog door on the attached door on the back porch...where the 2 BIG dogs were already sleeping for the evening!

From there it would have had to go AROUND the sideways bed that we have to create a windblock, then over the 1x12 taht keeps the straw separate from the eating area, PAST at least 1 dog, to get in behind the garbage can, and wedge itself in between the can, freezer and wall

If you look close at the second one, I believe, you can see it has a death grip on the handle of the rake, so hubby just lifted it with the rake and put it into the can..then it took us about 5 minutes of coaxing, gently tugging at the rake, while hubby kept the lid on, the get it to finally let go...

That reminded me of when we first moved to the country. We installed a pet door in a small storeroom where we kept the dogs' food. One night I went to feed the dogs and when I walked in to the store room, I had the distinct feeling that I was being watched.

As I looked about, I was greeted by two bright, brown beady eyes belonging to a racoon! O:)

We guessed he came in looking for food, also.

Hubby escorted him back out and we never saw him again.

Well.....the critter is still around.....for the last few weeks or so, I would get home from work, and on the way up to the house, get a whiff of ODOR and think...geeesh....are the ferals really leaving THAT bad of a scent around the place...but then.....the scent was JUST in ONE area near my Blue Spruce tree about half way down the sidewalk...as I got closer to the house, no odor...just for a few feet along the sidewalk...
And then....other times, no odor at all...I have been stumped for quite a while now on that one....

Tonight we drove up and hubby stopped and we watched a possum waddle across the dirt road, actually the snowpacked road...under the shrubs along the fencline, then appear again to waddle across the front yard and go under my blue spruce in the front yard

Sure enough, as we unloaded groceries and carried them in, there was that VERY STRONG ODOR...
