Hi I have a 7 yr. old Tabby and noticed today that on her 'behind' she has 2 small 1 in. circumference holes there. You can actually see her muscle, tendons 'the meat'! A friend said she had a cat with the same condition and that it was a fly that laid eggs there and now they are trying to 'claw' themselves out! Has anyone had this happen, how serious is it and any clues on cost of procedure? I'm very worried about her and what pain she may be in Thanks so much for replying!

Cat has possible flie larvae making holes thru skin
Re: Cat has possible flie larvae making holes thru skin
i think you may be referring toi cuterebra (sp) which are larvae of certain flies..if you see the larvae do not try to get them out yourself because if you rupture them you can cause a severe anaphylactic, sometime fatal reaction in the cat...get a vet check.and have him/her/it take them out safely...these also could be coincidental anal sac ruptures....get it checked

You need to get your kitty seen by your vet IMMEDIATELY....Davet could be correct on the cuterebra (aka bot fly)...and the diameter you posted sounds about right. However, this could be an area filled with maggots as well, so you can't take risks, regardless.
Both burrow inward as opposed to outward, and both can cause severe infection and infestation into further tissue and muscle. Don't wait another minute on this, get your kitty to the nearest ER vet clinic ASAP. The vet will flush the wound, clear all the larvae out and will prescribe antibiotics, be prepared for a couple followup rechecks.
