Automatic LitterBoxes ... any opinions?

Littermaid didn't fare well in reviews. This one by Scoopfree seems to be the favorite in reviews except for the cardboard box of the refills soaking with urine. Of course, there's a company out there selling non-toxic PVC bottoms which could be an option.

Anyway, does anyone have one? If so, what are your opinions?

Well, if no one has an opinion on the automatic boxes, does anyone have an opinion on the crystal litter. Is it better than the clay scooping? Or nastier?

I tried TidyCat crystals, but don't like it. Doesn't clump well, tracks all over the floor....in bare feet, it hurts!

I'm looking for something new too, with 99.999% less dust

I never tried crystal litter..I'm still using the Costco stuff..

I've used crystal litter with good success, but not all cats like it. I found one brand that had smaller crystals that didn't hurt as much when you stepped on them but I can't remember what it was. I think it was a Cat Attract brand. With Gizmo I've switched to plain ol clay litter because it's all he will use. I've been using Arm and Hammer clumping, non-scented with Willow and it seems to control odor pretty well. The crystal did too, but I got tired of hurting my feet as Traci said...

If you find success with a different litter, please post about it...it seems like we are forever on the hunt for a find better ways to deal litter issues.

I think we should all put thinking caps on and design/patent/market our own!

I won't use pellets of any kind, they are tough on kitty feet, get mushy when wet and are a mess to clean up. I personally think silica crystals are the most un-natural thing ever made (JMHO), and I'm tempted to go back to plain clay litter.

I'll definately let you know, Lisa, if I ever find anything I'm happy with, or should I say, the cats are happy with. I'm fortunate in that my cats really have been good about any litter type, save for Cairo, who of course has to have paper towels in her box

Traci...I do believe that I read someplace somewhere that you were going to invent some sort of floor grid system with an automatic system to just wash it all away...

I also am considering that if I ever can build onto the house, I would build a custom cat enclosure for the kitties...a HUGE room with LOTS of windows...and get what I read one woman uses....cypress mulch and Red Texas Wigglers...she has a 4x4x1 box and I believe she only changes it out 3-4 times a year...and the old stuff goes into the flower gardens (NOT vegetable gardens!!)
