My Angel is gone
My Angel is gone
And it's all my fault. She must have gotten out onto the porch when I wasn't looking, and she fell in the pool and drowned. I didn't know she was out there, and by the time I found her, it was too late. I ran her to the emergency vet, but I already knew there wouldn't be good news. She couldn't swim - her hips were too bad. Her eyesight was failing, and I knew it. We always watched her to make sure she stayed away from the pool. I can only pray that she forgives me and will be waiting for me at The Bridge one day so I can tell her how very sorry I am.
Angel's Story:
Angel was a rescue. A beautiful sheltie I fell in love with in 1999 from her picture on the internet. She was at home here from the moment she walked in - claiming the couch as her own, and no one challenged her. They told me they thought she was between 5-7 years old. That would have made her at least 13 now. They didn't know her story. She was a stray 'captured' by a vet clinic and turned over to rescue. They said she was hard to catch - that's unlikely. This dog never met anyone she didn't think was her friend. The story seemed suspicious, but no one challenged it and sheltie rescue took her in. She had health problems. Ones that kept her in rescue for almost a year before she was put up for adoption. Serious bladder issues that surgery finally cured a few years ago, and hip dysplasia - something they didn't recognize in rescue, and the likely reason I lost her today. I promised to take care of her. They even refunded my adoption fee because of the care she would require. I fell in love with her almost immediately - something I wasn't sure I could do since I'd never had a dog that didn't come into my life as a puppy before. She was the happiest dog I ever knew. She had a beautiful smile. She was my explorer. Deep in my soul, I had a feelling I would lose her because she got out of the fence one to many times and didn't come home. I know she hurt all the time, and I tried my best to help her with that. She was starting to have trouble getting up and walking. I knew 'the decision' might be getting closer, but it wasn't supposed to happen like this.

Oh, Karen, I am so so so very sorry, my heart just aches for you!!!!
Please don't live in guilt, you couldn't have known, it was a split second, and you may not even have had time even at that point, things happen so fast, no matter how hard we try to intervene.
Know that she is watching over you now, she knows you are in pain and she is right there with you, trying to comfort you.
You gave her a wonderful life, when obviously, it was only YOU whom she needed all those years ago, she knows how very much you love her.
Safe and gentle journey, sweet sweet Angel, you will be sorely missed but never ever forgotten.........(((((HUGS)))))

Karen, I am so sorry. Please don't blame yourself Sometimes the man up above has other plans. Angel knew how much you loved her, and that is all that matters to her.

Re: My Angel is gone
Nearly midnight Christmas Eve. I am weeping for you, Karen... have been away from the board several days (family probs) Wish I could help... I know the hurt, and also know you have had it before too. It is worse when it happens suddenly like this. And the timing is never good. Hang in there, K-9. Remember, on way or the other, Angel is okay now, and you will be too.
PM me when you can.
