Sorry for that last post! Here's my questions...

My 5 or 6 year old female cat suddenly lost her meow the other day, and now she has it back, but it isn't her normal meow, and sounds very wierd. She's short haired, and hasn't coughed up any hairballs, or tried. She also appears to have lost a little weight. We're going to take her to the vet, but the tests the vet wants to do are very expensive, and I'd like some second opinions as to what this could be...? Thanks for any help!

could be such a simple thing as laryngitis which can be self limiting but i would not advise for or against the lab tests cause i'm here, your cats there...

Do you have any idea what the treatment for laryngitis would entail?

We cannot and do not diagnose here. The lab tests are to rule out various potential health illnesses and to monitor vital organ function. The weight loss is concerning and your vet knows this, hence the necessity of the bloodwork. Sudden weight loss is concerning in that this could be diabetes, liver disease, thyroid condition, the possibilities are endless and the sooner you get them ruled out, the better for your kitty. Also, any kitty age 6 or older should recieve annual bloodwork to keep abreast of any hidden illnesses.
