Re: My first orphan
Last month I rescued three kitties about Quincy's age. Bottle feeding them was like trying to bottle feed a squirmy cactus
I got out my cotton gardening gloves and washed them and dried them and used one on the hand that I used to hold the bottle. It seemed to calm them because they could knead the glove while they nursed.
They quickly began lapping their formula from a small dish and now I miss holding them and watching their tiny faces while they nurse. They have more than tripled their weight [they are about 9 weeks old now].
They love their kibble but because they are still so small, the biggest one is just about 24 ounces, I still give them formula twice a day. I had never raised infant kittens but this was a wonderful experience. And they seem to like me LOL.

I have bottle fed many kittens....I too love to watch their tiny noses and ears wiggle and the grunty sounds they make...and then when they learn to "hold the bottle with claws flying out of frustration becuase they cannot get a good hold on it....
Re: My first orphan
Quincy was adopted today! A single lady with a big house, 2 other cats and a screened in deck! She said I could visit any time! YAY!

Good for you doing such a great job with Quincy. I hope you are able to visit oftern.
Re: My first orphan
I'm glad to hear this, Cindy, did you have him at home all this time?
..........Traci
oh no, he went back to the shelter when he was fully weaned and starting to be very active. I couldn't keep him home, my Mom couldn't handle a 4th pet, and a kitten at that! He had a nice apartment with a roomate little girl kitten and he was happy there, but of course I wanted him adopted ASAP so the first person who had indoor only cats and no kids was my first choice
at least now I know I can handle fostering and letting go!
