Vet fees
In case you read the article in consumers reports on the fact that vets may be over charging or are out to get rich quick, here are a couple facts that they did not print..now this does not involve me cause I got out before all this happened but::
“Because pets cannot speak vets must use diagnostic tests to determine the cause of the medical problem. Ultrasounds, x-rays, blood tests and biopsies are often the only way to diagnose the medical condition..Owners don’t want their vets guessing.
Vets have to purchase their diagnostic equipment for these tests. Community supported hospitals do not provide the equiptment ie as an ultra sound for private practice Costa bout $30’000 to $50’000, x-ray Costa about $15’000 to $40’000 etc
After 8 Years of college the average education debt is $72’719,( Ask JulieB) with an average starting salary of $46’339..those vets with advance degrees, i.e. orthopods, ophthalmologists, dermatologists etc incur greater costs
“ the article states that vets are looking for to get rich quick, increasing the price of prescriptions 100 to 250% most every vet offers many products at little or no mark-up..now the question comes in why can petsmart sell things for $15.00 where as vets sell the same thing for #25.00 (just arbitrary figues.).Petsmart can buy a million or so units for a great discount…, in a small practice we could only buy maybe 25 to 100 units at a much higher price..
this could go on and on but it boils down that is you want to get rich do something else like be a plumber or mechanic who gets time and a half and double time after so many hours… but if you want to provide a good service and make an average living, then be a vet..
so there….some of this is my own words but others are facts…and if I had to do it over again, as with most vets,,,we would do the same thing,,,,
end of sermon
i am not sure if this goes here or not but what the heck:::

Well said, Davet, AMEN
The entire report was so misleading and contained so many inconsistencies and half-truths, I'm surprised it passed the editor's desk. Well, no, I guess I'm not surprised

Thanks, Davet- well said. Answered some questions I have had about vet care.
I also think that what motivates a good vet and those in the field - is the same that motivates a good dr.- hopefully, not money as the main object, but a desire to choose a respected profession that provides rewards inherent in serving their patients. I know my vet loves animals and what she is doing - and their human caretakers. She is not only an 'animal person' but a 'ppl person' as well.
