Furminator work???

Post by momPaws »

Have any of you tried this and does it work? This product is supposed to remove the undercoat as you brush without removing the top hair.
Honey, being a BC, has a tremendous undercoat shedding problem this time of year. If you have tried this product let me know what you think pls.

Or any better ideas? I do have a brush I use on her, but am open to better ideas...thanks much!

Haven't tried this type, but know what you mean - GSDs also have a thick undercoat and thus are often called German shedder dogs  What does best for me is a shedding blade, the serrated edge metal loop on a handle. Available at PetsMart etc. Then too, I have a couple of the double brushes from the supermarket (about the only thing besides chew toys worth buying from Hartz Mtn IMO) - these have a regular brush (which is useless on Winnie) on one side and currycomb 'pins' on the other, effective, side. But you no doubt already know all this, right?... If you try the new type, give us a report on how you like it.

I read on a grooming baord that the "whole treatment" works, but that involves the entire line- brush, shampoo, conditioner and a high velocity blower/dryer looking thing. I saw the FURminator brush on QVC a couple of weeks ago- it looked like it worked pretty good during their demo on an Aussie. I don't know how much better it really worked then an undercoat rake, tho, since they didn't do a comparison. When we had our Husky/GSD, I used a shedding blade. It worked great- only taking off dead hair. Since then, tho, I've discovered undercoat rakes.

I thought I would revive this.....two women on my SHE forums today are talking about how wonderful this is for their dogs...I may have to invest in 1 for the dogs and 1 for the cats!

I got one mostly for Java, and I do like it. It also does a good job getting dead hair off the Bassets who just shed constantly. You do have to be careful not to over use it at one time because it will get too harsh on the skin.

What is it? The picture link is no longer valid. I have major shedders, and if it works, I want to know about it!

The instructions say to use a light touch, and not to use it for a long time. I imagine most pets would let you know when they have had enough and it is becoming irritating.
