Pinto went to his regular vets today re the UTI check-up (different doc every time which I'm not used but anyway) I thought he was recovered but am told he seems dehydrated a little - and they were unable to get a urine sample, so I left him there - am to check back late this afternoon.
Meanwhile, this vet says I might consider getting an automatic water feeder... she described something one plugs in and it keeps water circulating... Seems I've heard of these before but don't recall much about them. Would PetsMart carry them or should I look online? I have water dishes all over the apartment and see Q drinking regularly, but rarely Pinto... I tried offering him salty stuff like tuna water, as his vet suggested last week, but he doesn't care for that kind of thing.
Advice will be appreciated.

Electric Water Fountains?
Re: Electric Water Fountains?
Yes..I have seen a couple of different varieties at our PetSmart...and I think WalMart carries 1 or 2 as well...I don't remember, and they are all different in what they carry anyways...
I had a fountain waterer, and the only thing that happened was that Gump had another toy
Would he drink from a faucet? My brother leaves the bathroom faucet run in a small steady stream and the cats prefer to drink from that as opposed to the dish on the floor...
Just another thought...but not sure of the cost of water in Austin, either!!

Re: Electric Water Fountains?
Thanks Tambrey! Yes, Pinto would most likely fool with it - that's why I am not using the waterer with large tank which I got for them when I had to be over in New Orleans last spring: he kept playing with it until water would slop all over on the floor! But maybe I'll try to tape it somehow and put it back in use... And no, I doubt very much if either cat would drink from a tap - I've had cats that did, though. We have wonderful water here in Central Texas - it comes from the famous Edwards Plateau, a gigantic natural underground water reserve... you know, like you have in Iowa and Nebraska (it may be all part of the same "Ocean Below the Surface" system, I forget)... but we try to conserve water as much as we can; if I was in my own house I might try to rig something that would have the water go on to outdoor plants... no can do in an apartment - I'd likely be the one caught and evicted
Anyhow you have given me some ideas and I'm off to check both WalMart and PetsMart before I pick up El Gato Pintado...

Re: Electric Water Fountains?
I have never seen them around here...I imagine it depends on the size of your store. Austin probably has larger ones than this hick town.
If you have trouble finding it, here is a link to one. The company is very dependable.

We have one of the Drinkwell fountains and got it from PetSmart. I liked it because it actually creates a stream of water not a 'water slide' like some versions do. I notice Willow drinking much more water from it that she did from a bowl. Gizmo likes to drink from the tap so I really need to get him one. They are a bit pricey...around $50 I think, but well worth it if they will keep a cat hydrated!
