Keeping a Watchful Eye
Re: Keeping a Watchful Eye
No, he did not mention an abcess, just a bad tooth.

Re: Keeping a Watchful Eye
She let me look in her mouth this evening and all I can see is one fang that is brown around the gumline, so I am assuming this is the bad tooth...it is also the fang that does not go into her mouth when it is closed...I did not see anything else or other bad looking teeth...nor did I smell anything...so I am hoping that it is just the bad tooth and/or a URI because she has done soooo much better since she started the Clavamox...whereas she was hardly walking the other night, she is jumping onto chairs and the desk again and her coat looks sooo much better...
hubby is going to take her to the vet again tomorrow morning since I have to work and see how she is doing and schedule a time to get that tooth taken care of, unless he does decide to do it tomorrow...

Re: Keeping a Watchful Eye
thank you everyone....prayers are very much appreciated today....even though she has gained so much strength in the last few days, especially when she was fairly near death earlier in the week, she is at this moment knocked out at the vet's office to have teeth pulled...
hopefully this will alleviate her problems and she will soon be full strength again...
I called when the office opened at 7:30 and he said to bring her right in...
We talked about her age and the risks, and still being a bit weak and thin, and he said the risks right now are worth it because she would not make it much longer elsewise....so I even held her while he gave her the shot to make her loopy and stayed with her until she started to go under....
She is a bit pale...ears, gums, etc, so he was concerned about that as well...but wanted to get the teeth out priority and then do the rest from there....she is very alert and bright eyes and has lots of physical strength even though she is thin and pale...hopefully after the teeth are out and on antibiotics a bit longer...and whatever else we find afterwards....she will gain strength and be with us for a while longer...
But on the drive to the vet's....and I do not have the carrier so I had her in my arms to the car....BIG risk I know....and sat her on the seat beside me....she was her usual self on the car ride.....standing up looking out window....yowling....and when I would stop the car, she wobbled a bit and I would reach out, but she stayed steady on her feet....which was quite a feat for her given that a few days ago she could not even hold herself up....
Anyways...I need to get dogs fed and off to work....I will call the office in an hour or so and see how she is doing, and then we will pick her up later this afternoon when I get off of work at 3:00...the office closes at noon, but hubby has a key since he is their computer tech! I said I would rather leave her there to recover and rest in one of their cages as long as possible then I will bring her home to the bathroom for the weekend or until she feels up to joining the others
hopefully this will alleviate her problems and she will soon be full strength again...

Tambrey, don't know if he did bloodwork prior, but may be a good idea to get this done before she comes home. You should rule out anemia, or kidney problems.

Re: Keeping a Watchful Eye
I stopped in on my way to work...she was recovering...wrapped in a towel...she flicked her ears and licked her lips when I leaned over to touch her and talk to her...
He pulled....or attemped to pull...3 teeth...the fang was fairly easy but two molars in the back he said were so brittle they were coming out in pieces and he hopes he managed to get it all...he had to do quite a bit of digging around...poor baby
She will continue on Clavamox and go in next Tuesday for a follow up, unless she is not doing well Monday...
I picked up more S/D for cats...Science Diet seafood entree and also ummm...I forget the other one...a fishy one....and another can of KMR...he does not have the powder at his office....I wish he carried that!!

Re: Keeping a Watchful Eye
no, he did not do bloodwork today since he would have to send it to the hospital in the city, and the Saturday staff is minimal at the local office....
We will do that when we go in for the follow-up Tuesday

Re: Keeping a Watchful Eye
Gypsy is home...still like a bobble head doll and resting in the bathroom...our carrier is gone, so I just put her in the bathroom and barricaded her into a cubby hole area using cat litter buckets with a few bricks in them for weight...
She even has more colour in her nose and ears now it seems...more pink...
When she is fully functional later this evening I will offer her a bit of food and water...

Thank you....she is getting around quite well now and as I am typing, she is eating here at the desk...since she is getting canned food and KMR...mixed into a mushy mass...she does not eat with the others and I want to keep a watch to make sure how much she is eating each time...
She has had a nice firm bowel movement, no pee yet...but then she has not had anything to eat or drink since lastnight....
