SHY KITTEN

Post by tatey1 »

HI WE'VE JUST BOUGHT A KITTEN AND IT WONT COME NEAR ANYONE. ITS 9 WEEKS OLD, AND WE'VE ONLY HAD IT SINCE YESTERDAY. IS THIS NORMAL?

IS THERE ANYTHING YOU CAN RECOMMEND TO GET THE CAT USED TO PEOPLE? IT SHYS AWAY WHENEVER ANYONE GOES NEAR IT, OR RUNS OFF IF YOU TRY TO STROKE HER.

SHES NEVER BEEN BADLY TREATED IN THE PAST.

ANY IDEAS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

MY EMAIL ADDRESS IS JEN.JOHNSON@HOTMAIL.CO.UK

THANKS IN ADVANCE

My best advice is to give your kitty a little time and try not to be too overbearing with it. Many times when we get new pets we want to snuggle with them much more quickly than they are ready for it. Remember your kitty is in all new surroundings and will need time to get used to the house and to everyone in it.

I just went through a very similar thing. Our kitten hid behind the furniture for several days before coming out while we were there. Definitely put it in one room and close it off so it can get used to that space. Then later, you can introduce it to the rest of the house.

We've had our kitten for two weeks. At the end of the first week, we were finally able to pet her. At the end of this week, week 2, we opened the door to the rest of the house, but she's pretty timid about running around. Sometimes, as I learned, it just takes some time and patience. Our kitten loves us and loves to be petted; our patience was rewarded. Recognize that moving to a new place with new people is very stressful and give her some time.
