My kitty got sick this past weekend and I had to separate him from his sister to keep and eye on him. She seems to be depressed by it. I tried to bring them in the same room for a while and she hisses at him. I think she is mad.
Other question, more serious. My girl kitty has gained a lot of weigh since being fixed. I mean a lot. She is well over 20 lbs and she does not have a big frame. She looks so uncomfortable and all she does is eat and sleep and go to the box. I took the food up. I had it to where they could eat whenever they wanted. Now I am controlling the portions. But I don't know how to make her exercise. I am worried for her. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Stacy

stacy have you brought the ill cat to the vet? is not then do so asap. If you have then what did dr. say is wrong? If you havent there is no waiting, call tomorrow and get an appt. Separating them wont fix what is wrong.
After her spaying you should have been told to watch her diet and cut back a little I guess you were not told this. Her weight is obese and can cause other health issues. You need to get her to the vet as well to make sure she is healthy before starting anything regarding weight loss or a change in food. If she is healthy then YOU will have to start exercising with her. Help her by playing with her every day. Vet might want to change the food to a diet food. Please make sure her thyroid is checked as well. Hypothyroidism can cause weight gain.

Oh and also not sure why kitty is hissing at her brother except that she smells something is wrong with him. Cats dont like change at all so separating them can cause that. Get him to vet so you can rule out disease and bring them back together.

Thank you for your reply. I did take the male to the vet. He has a UTI and is on pain meds and antibiotics. They told me to keep him separate so I could monitor whether or not he was urinating. I will also take her to the vet for a check up and to see about a diet for her. Thank you. Stacy

You are very welcome. Make sure you finish all meds that the dr. gave you.
PLEASE speak with dr. about preventing recurrent UTI's. Please discuss with your vet the type of food you are feeding, it might be contributing to the UTI. There are types of food that can help prevent it.
He can also talk to you about types of food to help with girl kitties weight.
Female could have known something was wrong and that is what the hissing was about BUT also if you took male to vet and brought him back and THEN female was hissing , the reason for the hissing was due to that "smell" from the vets office. Cats hate it but get over it in a day or so.
When female comes back the male will do the same to her. lol
Let us know how what the vet says about her weight and what tests he would like to run to make sure there is no illness that is causing her weight.
Let us know what vet says about the food for BOTH cats and what he would like to do to help you change their diets to suite their needs. You might have to change their diets to two separate things. If vet doesnt seem to think that it is nessesary please see a vet that will take you seriously. Is this a cat exclusive vet or small animal vet? Ones who see cats only tend to be better at taking the time to help you with problems such as recurrent uti's that can happen, not saying it will happen again but a lot of times uti's are due to the type of food you are giving. They take time to get kitty on a food that will help properly reduce weight and give you ideas on how to exercise kitty.
It is good that your kitty's health is important to you and it should be just as important to your vet.
Good luck dear
