Introducing a new dog into the household

K9K is sooooooo right when it comes to them watching everything you do. LOL

Also as a puppy coming into the home....dont forget how to introduce them but also making sure you treat them as tho Pebbles is above the puppy in the higherarchy will help to have no fighting during their lives together. When dogs know their place they do not need to have a fight for a higher place in the pack. Most dogs do not want that job anyway and as long as the human will take control of them they will be content with it.

We have a new puppy! He is the sweetest thing who is outgoing and happy to give kisses. He is very well socialized...has met all the neighbors with no problems. Pebbles is happy with him...only had to tune him in once when he tried to take her treat...he listened well. Gazoo, my cat, is not too sure of him yet. We are carefully monitoring the situation. He hisses at him but is still comfortable enough to sit on his favorite spot on the loveseat with me and demands his kisses and cuddles.
I will post an update and pictures as soon as I get some film for my camera.

Great to hear! I can hardly wait for pics and more news. I have been following this and hoping you would find a 'boy' puppy. All best wishes to you and your household!

Please be VERY Careful with this. When introducing a new puppy the oldest dog should ask pup to come into home then you leave a puppy in a calm area for overnight.

If this is the puppy you said was 16 weeks you must be aware that 17-21 weeks is a VERY bad time to have any problems. IF THE CAT bites him or attacks him he will forever hate them. These next few weeks you must make sure that he is not in contact with anything that can be of danger or a shock. Even someone coming up behind him and scaring him can do damage. He should not be taken out into the neighborhood during this time as well.

I know this seems like i am being overprotective but I do this for a living and have so many times seen so many bad things happen because dogs are put out there and scared or hurt or not socialized properly and during there fear period people dont understand that this can and most of the time does effect them later on.

Remember thunder storms are just to be ignored. IF Pebbles does not like them then keep her away from the new puppy. SHE WILL cause damage to the new puppy if he is shown by her that she is scared.

If you need anything let me know you can pm me. Glad you have found a puppy that has met your needs. How wonderful. Look at the guide that I sent you and AFTER their fear period is over then you can make sure that the socialization from the weeks prior were done and if they werent then do them at that time. You can always do the socialization with cows,sheep, and so on when ever you can...

But the walking in the woods or even in the backyard and teaching the pup that they must always look for you is very crucial. BUT after their fear period is over with.

Sounds to me like you have the matter well in hand! In a lifetime [I'll be 80 end of October] of dealing with cats, dogs, horses, kids, men, women and the occasional bovine, it has been my experience that as a rule in introducing new animals, the first few hours tell the tale. You also are obviously an experienced pet owner....Thus, odds are that you, your husband, Pebbles, the cat and the new pupper have already passed the main test and you needn't obsess over negative possibilities: For now, just enjoy the blessings you've earned!

I'll post a picture I have of him at 9 weeks on Debbies Cloud. My daughter is coming to visit on Friday so I asked her to bring her digital camera so I can take some new pictures. He has changed a lot in such a short time. What a good dog he is...he is getting along great with Pebbles and Gazoo. We have to tell him to 'take it easy' sometimes when he wants to give to many kisses but they don't seem to be bothered by it.
Dot...thank you so much...he really is a blessing.
