Bud Has Me A Bit Concerned
Re: Bud Has Me A Bit Concerned
Hi Traci...he is alot more "relaxed" and wanting attention...he followed me into the bathroom and was laying there rubbing his head against my foot...rolling over and chirping for belly rubs...and when I rubbed his belly he would close his eyes and kneed his paws in the air and purrrrrr...
Before, his body was very tense and you could tell that when you petted him, he felt tight...now he is loose and floppy and totally relaxed, so feeling alot better...his eyes are brighter as well...
He has not eaten alot yet...a bit of canned food...and he did have another very loose smelly stool lastnight...of course he was upstairs and the litterbox downstairs it is now upstairs where he seems to prefer being right now...I also took a cushion from our old couch up and put it in the hall for something familiar and soft to lay on, but he seems to prefer the hard wood floor...probably cooler...
He is also drinking water well, so that is good...
I let Munkie out in the hall with him, because they usually like to play together, but he was not ready for that yet...but I figured if he wanted some feline companionship, Munkie was the best one to give it...but they neither one seemed interested, so I brought Munkie back into the main house...I do not want him eating Bud's food or drinking water or using that litterbox because then I could not monitor Bud!
The vet did not list what the compaction consisted of, so I will call there tomorrow...he just said to continue with the CatLax once daily for 3 more days...

Good to hear, hope that's all it was!!
The soft stool was probably due to the enema, and hopefully, last traces of any impacted feces.

I hope so too...but to be sure and keep a close watch on him...he is relegated to the entry hall and upstairs hall at least for the 3 more days on CatLax...
Re: Bud Has Me A Bit Concerned
Bud has an appointment at the hospital this afternoon...
he has been moping about lastnight..I know the heat/humidity was unbearable and we do not have A/C...
I wanted to entice him to eat ANYTHING, so I fried an egg for him lastnight...he turned his nose up...I cut up a bit of porkshop, and he was excited to sniff at it, but when he tried to eat, he gagged and coughed it back out...
the hospital has x-ray and MRI machines if necessary....our local vet does not have those in his office so he agreed it was a good idea to get him down there...
I will let you know what they find...

Tambrey, first evaluate total oral health, then opt for xrays to determine if there might be a blockage somewhere (i.e., stomach, intestine, colon) or even an inflammatory condition. Total bloodwork if possible, but I think an xray is in order. (bloodwork could help determine if there might be bacterial infection somewhere)

Re: Bud Has Me A Bit Concerned
yes..that is what our local vet said...if he drew blood today, he would have to send it to this hospital and then wait for results...so he wants them to do x-rays and total blood profile...and yes, look better into his mouth and even his throat if necessary...
When my mom was rubbing under his chin this morning, she said he felt a bit swollen in his jaw/throat area...
He was very hot and lethargic lastnight so I brought him to bed with us and he was there almost all night laying in front of the fan...he was alot perkier this morning, but still not eating or drinking...he goes and sniffs at all bowls, but does not bother to eat or drink...however, he is still urinating and his skin elasticity is still good, so he is not dehydrated...yet...and I do not want him to get there!!

Re: Bud Has Me A Bit Concerned
Remind me, how old is he? Not sure what your mom was feeling, but might ask vet to check lymph node activity and thyroid.

Re: Bud Has Me A Bit Concerned
we are not sure how old he is...he is one of the older ferals who came into our home a little over a year ago...our local vet estimates him to be 5 or 6 years of age...
with the blood profile I will ask that the do TSH and T4 and T3 to check his thyroid levels as well...and I am hoping that if his lymph nodes are swollen, it is due to a simple infection that will be easily cleared up with Baytril or Clavamox...and that the swelling and pain from that infection is what is causing him to not eat or gag on food...
