An Interesting Moth

Post by Tambrey »

okay, so we cannot see it because it is outside the window...but it has gotten the undivided attention of some of the cats

Image

Please ignore/excuse the stuff stuffed into the bookshelves...this is a HUGE hotspot in our house...as soon as it is cleaned...it is seen as fair game to get stuffed again

BTW...this is Munkie, Roo, Majik and Sissy

What stuff? With cats in the photo, who notices the background?

I solved the problem of cats having to share a window in two rooms....french doors  One of them leads to a patio deck outside where the little wild habitat can be easily viewed for the cats inside. All 9 of them can see the backyard from anywhere in the room.

Have to agree with Judy :P

the main shelf they are on is actually 6 feet long, and runs the entire length of that window, but they do not always like to share!!

And that window looks out over our backyard...which has nothing but nature in it for acres!

One day I would love to open up that wall and put French doors leading out to a 4 season tropical room, with a raised pond/waterfall area in it and heat rocks and lamps for the pair of Chinese Water Dragons!!...Of course, the cats would NOT be allowed out there becuase the dragons would be allowed to run loose!!...The Herp Specialist vet in the city already told me that when I am ready for dragons to let him know and he will get me small healthy ones...
Hubby is not too keen on that idea :?

And if I can ever afford to do it, I would like to put a tunnel/catwalk from under my kitchen sink, to the outside on the north side of the house, to a totally enclosed, but open to nature, cathouse...with tight clawproof screens...storm windows to close in winter...lots of windows and spaces to lay and things to climb on...and one of those BIG litterboxes I read about on another site...the woman used cypress mulch and got about 10,000 Texas Red Wigglers and the cats used that...the wigglers decomposed the waste and 3 times a year she just dumps the cypress onto her flower gardens and refreshes it...

A little more than half way down the screen

aahhhh...its nice to dream!!

Those are some pretty ingenious designs there! I wonder if some of them are actually in Austrailia, does it snow in Australia?

I'd be concerned with the heavy use of lattice, since it weathers fast and very badly, and is so brittle when it weathers. Other than that, the pics are cool.

Yeah, super-douper litter control and outdoor enclosures. Thanks alot, Tambrey, now the inspiration is just too overwhelming :P

I would not want to use lattice for the reasons you mentioned...I would probably build it more like a room addition, just with tall screened storm windows maybe a foot from the floor, and very close together, to seem like a very open room...

concrete on the floor, and I have a friend who does the floor heating under concrete, so I could have him do that, so it would never be cold...and then just have washable pillows and stuff for them to lounge around on...or maybe have a few cots made for them...these are easy to wash and last FOREVER it seems...
Scooby used it, and we got him back in 1999...and the 2 collie retriever mix dogs have had it since then

a gangplank style ladder for them to get to a secure higher level with carpeted bedding to lay on and watch out the back...and there are white pines and a blue spruce right there as well, so birds would be able to be watched as well!

If you feed them, they will come. LOL, feed your birds Tambrey!

On second thought, better figure a budget first! I think I spend more on cat food, squirrel food, bird food, special food and all the feeders to feed them with for critters than I do myself.

The cots are nice, and really nice in the clinic setting (and kennels), since they are high off a cold cement floor, helps keep cool drafts at bay.

I think on the last page of the catworld link for enclosures, I love the one that appears like it is simply a screened in deck, nicely done!

I KNOW I spend more each payday on critter food than human food

I have been playing in my 3D Home Architect...added a room for indoor cats, with a walk through under the kitchen sink....a mudroom...a cold storage room off of that and a feral cat room off of that, with 3 catdoors for easy exit in case of territorial issues...one of them leading to a big cypress litterbox for them as well...

Then I decided to bring the tropical room in off of the back of the dining room...but then there was this "space" between the tropical room and the add on for the indoor cat room, so I made that an outdoor dining room with BBQ, bar, table, and a fireplace and a couple of outdoor couches...

hahaha....yeah...nice to dream....WAY over MY budget....

but you know...I wonder if I could do something with vinyl lattice for them to go out at least in summer...and maybe in winter wrap it in plastic so if they REALLY wanted to go out there, they could...
