Need Opinions

Post by oconnorjoy »

I'm not sure where to post this but here goes.
I have a profound hearing loss and don't hear much of anything without my hearing aides. I take them out at night because they are very uncomfortable to sleep with. My hubby works nights so I am alone.
Bamm Bamm was my ears at nighttime and I could count on him waking me if there were any strange noises. Barry is very concerned about me being alone now. Pebbles has always slept under the bed instead of in it as she is only 7-8 lbs. I prefer this as she can't jump and I wouldn't want her to get hurt trying to get off the bed. I wouldn't hear her if she barked for my attention at night. Gazoo, my cat, has always slept with me...he used to sleep at my feet but has moved up to Bamm Bamm's place beside me. I say that he would wake me if there were a problem...hubby doesn't think so. What do you guys think?

1) they make pet ramps/steps for pets, so they can step up to an owner's bed.

2) talk to your physician about more comfortable hearing aids or at least a cushion of sort.

3) If you can't wear your hearing aid at night, how are you going to know if kitty does try to alert you to something? Cats are different than dogs..if they are worried or alerted about something, they may or may not make some sort of sign for you to recognize. Some cats simply sit and stare at the direction of a noise, other cats will go to investigate, other cats will alert the owner by placing a paw on the person, or pacing on the bed or in the room, or vocalizing, etc etc. Only you know your kitty best, and how he reacts to different sounds in the house at night, when you're sleeping, etc.

I think I would do one or both of two things, talk to your physician about more comfortable hearing aids, and get a pet step for Pebbles so she can be in your bed if she wishes to be. You might also consider investing in motion lights and an alarm system for you home if you're concerned for your safety.

motion lights were the first thing I thought of...as well as a set uf steps for Pebbles to get on the bed if she chooses to do so....

my DH is HOH as well, and hates to wear his aides because life is too noisy!...But his hearing IS getting worse, and it worries me the way he misses out on so much...

We have talked about motion sensors/alarms...there are lights and louder bells that hook up to your smoke detector, telephone, doorbell, etc to help HOH people response in a timely manner...you may even be able to get them at a reduced rate or for free since you are HOH.....
