Pix of Sam!

Post by Ferrana »

I posted in the "Pet Food Recall" thread about Sam, my parents' flame-point Siamese who was suspected of having fallen victim to tainted cat food. He became very, very ill and nearly died due to kidney and liver failure. The jury is actually still out on the cause now--he had a severe bladder blockage, but whether that was a cause or an effect of another cause they don't know.

He was on IVs and potent antibiotics and has been on the road to health for about a month now. He's still down from his previous hefty weight, but as you can see, he is feeling good! So good, in fact, I had a really hard time getting pictures--he was too busy rolling all over the bed showing off for me to get a nice shot of him.

Sorry it took so long to get pictures out to you guys--as I've been finishing my thesis my weekends have consisted of typing and printing, and I haven't visited my parents in 6 weeks!

But...here's SAM! :D

What a beautiful boy!!!

About that bladder blockage, please inform your parents (if they don't already know through the vet), that bladder/urethra blockages in cats can be fatal. If the vet is calling this FLUTD, there is always the potential it can happen again, especially in male cats. Signs to watch for include: squatting in unusual places to urinate...little to no urine produced, or only drops at a time....painful abdomen...vocalizing and crying out...fever activity...refusal to use the litterbox...straining to urinate....lethargy, not eating/drinking. Any of these symptoms would demand an emergency veterinary visit IMMEDIATELY!
