so i have a couple of questions about cats since i do not know much about them here is a little back story
ok so i am not a hard core cat person i like them but i never wanted pets about 10 months ago i was up in northern MN visting my parents and i went for a walk in the woods when walking on a trail a small black kitten started hunting me it was about 5 weeks old it followed me for about 1/2 block I knew it was wild and really did not want to touch it or bother it but it kept following me i looked down and almost jokingly said if you keep following me i will just take you home with me it ran off on my way back about the same spot that it ran off it jumped onto the trail and laid down. I looked at the kitten and said fine you can come home with me so i put it in my pocket and went home.
I had the cat checked out and got it fixed and all the shots when it was about 3 months old.
it is now about 10 or 11 months old and about 24 lbs ( none of which is fat ) since he was little when i got him i would wash and clean him up in the sink now he sits in the bath tub and cries until i fill it up about 2 or 3 inches so he can play in it.
in the last 3 months he as started doing the following
none shinny cat toys, mail and other none shinny object he can fit in his mouth he will carry over and set by his cat dish shinny cat toys and or other objects that are shinny such as plastic rap or foil from a candy bar he will put buy his potty box. he has to do this or he freaks out.
the other thing i find wierd about the cat is that if i toss something he will bring it back to me and set it down right by me feet so i end up playing fetch with him almost every day.
these habits i do not mind the below i am starting to not like.
he started climbing at about 2 months and loves it i set up some old climbing rope for him to climb and he climbs it just fine as well as any thing else including my walls it is only 3 spots 2 corners and 1 spot he can run at.
he he will climb right up a sheet rock wall and pull him self up on the door frame or a shelf and just hang out.
so i guess my question is. is this becuase he was a wild cat and has more wild cat in him or is this something normal house cats do.
also i do not no much about cats but it seems like he is really big for a house cat the vet could not tell much other then she thought he was about 5 for 6 months old when i took him in. but my friend who has 3 cats all of which are about 7 to 10 lbs and about 1/2 the size of mine
i have judged this by watching my friends cats they go back and run and jump to get on a 4 foot high table mine walks up stands all the way up on 2 legs which his head more then clears the table then pulls him self up with his front paws.
so by his size and his actions is it possible that he my have some wild cat in him like lynx or bob cat.
I want him to have fun but some control would be nice.
My odd cat
Re: My odd cat
it is possible for bobcat and other similar cats to breed with domestics and create a larger sturdier cat with more agility....I have a couple myself...and have had in the past...
they are more energetic and all...but it seems they are also the most affectionate ones...
I have a cat that loved to play fetch when she was younger...now she is lazy!!
water bottles are your friends!!.....get a couple with BLUE nozzles so you KNOW they are JUST for water!! Set a couple in handy places around the house and when he does something that is undesirable, give him a squirt in the hind end and tell him a firm NO, then redirect him to something more appropriate...like a climbing tree or scratching post if he is scratching where he should not be...
persistence is the key here...
Post pics when you can...maybe seeing him will answer some of your questions as well, as far as breeding and such...

Re: My odd cat
Ditto on the water bottle training advice.
If you are able to afford it, buy one or two sturdy cat condo trees. An onine search will bring you to plenty of dealers. The poles are lines with sisal and/or are just wood. He may find climbing those more pleasurable than sheet rock walls and door frames.
Post pictures when you can. I'd be curious to see him too.
