Found Kitty - Very malnutritioned
Re: Found Kitty - Very malnutritioned
I'm so happy! I went to PetCo today to get some kitty milk and food. There was a kitty adoption going on, and I started talking to the pet rescuer who was there. They are going to "fund" me to see their vet and do a preliminary checkup on our kitty!!! YAAAAAY!!! I will keep you posted. She is purring tonight, but her back legs still seem kinda weird/lazy. Sometimes she will have spasms in her back half...???

Sometimes when a cat has been malnourished for a while they can lost both muscle mass and nerve connections. It's possible that those may never reestablish themselves even if she gains weight and gets a clean bill of health.esheaman wrote:I'm so happy! I went to PetCo today to get some kitty milk and food. My sister has a cat like that. She's a wobbly walker, but such a great cat!
Great to hear you found a way to have her treated!

Please keep her away from all other cats. I hope your cats are vaccinated just in case. But please keep this cat away from them at all times. Saliva can bring on something in your house that you dont want so be aware.

Yes, we have her in the garage away from the other 2 cats. She seems very content there. She has a litter box and food there as well. We have been very diligent about washing our hands after handling her as well.

Re: Found Kitty - Very malnutritioned
OK, so the final chapter in our saga...
Went to the vet, turns out our lost kitty was about 10 -15 years old. Lots of fluid around his lungs and abdoman. That explained the labored breathing. The vet said the loss of muscle in his hind legs was either old age, or cancer. He had only one fang and couple of other teeth. So, we had to put our Popoki to sleep.
My daughter cried, the husband of the rescue place cried watching HER cry...
Long story short, she wants another kitty... For now we are going to foster a mama kitty and five babies - ALL GIRLS!!! They are three weeks old. I can't wait - we pick them up this afternoon!!
Thanks to all of you who responded with your thoughts and suggestions. I really appreciated it. You might just hear back from me with my new foster family!!

I'm so sorry for your loss, but I think it is wonderful that the cat got to die with a little dignity.
Congrats on fostering.

I also feel that the atleast the kitty had you and your family to do the right thing and there was no suffering, which i am quite sure if you hadnt done would have happen for a long time. Thank you so much for caring.
Good luck with mama and kittens
When you teach a child that it is ok to cry when an animal dies, you teach her empathy and compassion. What a wonderful teacher you are!
