Cat Food Problems

Post by Garnett_Buck »

:( hello everyone,I would like to ask all you expert cat owners some questions.....it would be really great to help me out with some stuff,Well I got a cat and he is 7months old&he weights 5pounds,the problem im having is he wont eat anyyyyyy cat brands I buy for him Except Sheba....which costs $1.30 each over here, anywayz I really dont care about the price as long as he is Happy&Healthy, but it just seems odd for me whenever we buy him Fancy Feast Or whatever other brands he just licks off all the liquid stuff from the food then leaves it untouched and trys to cover it up,I seen alot of cat owners buying 50packs of fancyfeast for their cats,I dont know what the problem is or what I can do for him so he can eat his food, the only thing he eats is dry food/water&whenever I buy him sheba brand catfood nothing else....and he really loves lettuce i dont know why,so if any of you people know what I can do plz help me out, thank you :(

As long as you are feeding him quality dry food and provide plenty of water, some would say you don't have to feed wet/canned food.

That being said, however, I do feed mine wet and it was either by Science Diet or Nutro -- before they were pulled off the market as part of the pet food recall. Normally I would say that Sheba and Fancy Feast or any brand you'd find in a supermarket wouldn't be of the best quality because of the byproducts and additives. Again, though because of the recall, I can't pass that judgement. In a pinch, I would feed mine Fancy Feast but only the Gourmet Medleys Chicken Florentine. Otherwise they are eating canned food from Wellness or Merrick. Both are priced at $1.09 US for a 5 ounce can.

I do notice that when I feed mine Fancy Feast compared to one of the higher quality brands, their poop STINKS!

I probably confused you more than what I currently am! Again, if he's doing okay on a quality dry and has access to plenty of fresh water, this may be all that he really wants. As for the lettuce, I would try and break him of that habit. Cats digestive systems are sensitive and ruffage like that may possible cause upset. I'll admit while make a salad, one or two of my cats have jumped up on the counter to swipe a leaf of lettuce, only to play with it though. No one has ever digested it.

No human food at all for him. OK

Cleo is right a good quality dry food is fine with plenty of fresh water available.

He wont like it at first i'm sure but he'll get use to it.

Do not give him the lettuce there is no need for it and there is no nutrional value for a cat to eat it and you dont know what pesticides are on it no matter how well you wash. K
