lump in new kitten!
Re: lump in new kitten!
no you are not wrong at all to feel that way...
they should have had you bring her in because no one can diagnose over the phone...it could be any number of things...I would call the next vet on the list and try to get your kitten in today and have it checked properly...for your peace of mind and her health...
and I would not be going back to the one who does not seem to care...
let us know what the different vet says...
and do NOT use Bitter Apple on wounds!!

Re: lump in new kitten!
are there other ways to keep her from irritating it?
Re: lump in new kitten!
there are e-collars that you can get from your vet...but you can only have that on her when you are with her...
the best thing to do is follow up today with a vet visit and find out WHY it is irritating her so badly...
I have rescued plenty of ferals over the years, and had them spayed/neutered and to be honest...I have not had a female who worried and licked at her belly while it was healing...maybe just the normal stuff, but nothing out of the ordinary...
If one were licking and bothered by it that much, I would be taking her back to the vet to get it checked for infection or some irritation in there...

Re: lump in new kitten!
she's not licking it a lot... just biting at the stitches every now and then... usually after rubbing against something.... definitely not a constant thing....
Re: lump in new kitten!
but there is still that lump that needs to be checked...again...I would not hesitate to call a different vet and get her seen today...explain when and where she got it done and see if they will just check it as a follow up visit..
when are the stitches due to come out?
You may have mentioned in a previous post, but I have forgotten if you did.

Re: lump in new kitten!
they are not the kind of stitches that have to be removed.... they will dissolve? and we have called the other vets and have an appointment for her at 4pm this afternoon down the street from us (we're taking the big boy as well... we got em both at the same time from the same place and may as well make sure all is well with both at the same time) I'm not dismissing this by any means, just a bit dumb when it comes to what to expect with this sort of thing (especially within 2 days of getting them)
Re: lump in new kitten!
oh never think you are dumb...
and those self dissolving stitches...don't always dissolve...
I cut off the end of a finger when I was 15 years old...layers and layers of stitches to make it look right (I still have a nail, it was just 1/4 inch or so, but still the surgeon wanted to make sure my finger would look good)
anyways...for YEARS the end of my finger bothered me and every so often I would see a bit of black under the nail...as my nail grew, the black grew neared the end and I would finally be able it and pull it out...yeppers...a "dissolving" stitch had worked its way to the surface and finally out of my body!!
but until all those bits of debris worked their way out, the end of my finger was so sensitive that I had to stop playing my cello and could not bowl or play volleyball or anything because it hurt too much...

yikes! I've had stitches frequently or the "crazy glue" they now use as well... but never dissolving ones... glad to know they dissolve so well ...

Re: lump in new kitten!
so here I sit at work til after 7... my boyfriend just called from the vet visit... they want to keep monitoring her to make sure it doesn't change shape or density... for the next few days...... it could be swollen and irriated or it could be a blockage of some sort... although since she seems to be using bathroom and eating happily with no pain or agitation they don't THINK it is... Luckily we picked a place about 5 minutes from the house so even if one of us has the car the other can WALK to the vet rather easily... I suppose we'll be taking her back and forth through the weekend from the way he sounded
