Thank you for welcoming me!
I *may* know davet from another forum, but it has been years. AcmePet, if some recall. It seems Ive been running into several people from there on various forums these past few months.
I've been working with rescues, pounds and humane societies for about 15 years now. Im very involved with the one I got Simon from - as well as one of my dogs, a Lab named Boo.

Bless your heart for bringing Simon home! This absolutely touched my heart, reading this, seeing how affectionate he is. Most places, he would have been euthanized... but you gave him a loving home! You are a special person, JD. The world needs more people like you.
I'm sure Simon's adapted to life, but I'm really curious, how well does he get around?

This is really the first time I've talked at length about him, so I dont know how long this will be.
He was probably 10 weeks old when I got him.
I was at the pound the day a lady brought several cats in. The family had bought a piece of property that was overrun with cats so they has started trapping them - bringing some to the pound, doing TNR on others and if any were tame they worked on getting them into homes or rescues.
The lady mentioned one that has no eyes that she was worried about. I told her if she could catch him Id take him home. About two weeks later she brought him in, I was called and I went to pick him up.
He was terrified at the pound. I wasnt there when she brought him in, but I went down that afternoon.
When I brought him home I set him up in a big pet taxi. He tested out ok at the vet, but I didnt let him associate with my other cat until he was older and still tested negative.
He got used to the litter box while being crated and I eventually let him have a bedroom. It didnt take him too long to figure it out.
I eventually began directing him out of the bedroom down the hall and into the next room, where he could explore.
The rest of the upstairs just have a bathroom, the living room and dining room.
I work 3rd shift so in time when I was gone I left everything open so he could explore.
I never gave thought to downstairs, and the first few time I carried him down he was terrified - it opened up a whole new world, one he wasnt used to.
He does fine now, running up and down the stairs just like a normal cat. He plays with the dogs and follows the other cat.
When I play with him, if I want him to chase my hand I just rub my fingers together a little so he can hear where they are.
I have a small puppy and he loves to chase her. Both play hard together and her thumping feet and barking keeps him aware.
He can chase a string across the floor, a feather Im holding (if I twist it some so he can hear it) and he can jump on and off anything.
My dog went through my sliding screen door, so when I have that door open I crate him in a big pet taxi so he doesnt get outside.
He managed to once. He went to the treeline in my back yard and treed himself.
By the time I noticed he was high up. When I called him he meowed loudly. He was pretty much out in the open, and the neighbors back there have dogs and chickens. He was very scared, but managed to get down the tree to where I could reach him. He wanted out, but had a scare. He was more than ready to follow my voice into safety.
He is pretty normal in all, but when people see him for the first time, some think he's ugly or that he has infected eyes. They dont seep, but him keeping them closed makes it look odd.
He is big on using his hands to reach out and pat people so I use the softpaws on him. His aim can be bad and you are likely to get your eye poked if you arent careful.

He's the same davet and he hasn't changed a bit. I don't think he's been banned here as many times as he was on (the other board). davet was on (the board we don't talk about), so were Kevin (he was Don then), jdf, The Skeptic, E's (E's Hobbitt), me, and I know I've forgotten to mention many many others who also landed here. I think you'll like it - much different and, although we do sometimes disagree, it's nothing like (the other one). Welcome. Very pretty kitty! I'm so glad he found a good home with you.JD wrote:I *may* know davet from another forum, but it has been years. AcmePet, if some recall. Simon's history is amazing - and gratifying: we are learning so much about what cats can do... thanks for sharing this example.
