Any suggestions? What do you do? What works the best?
It wasn't so much of a problem at my old house, because the carpet had a rough texture and was a blend of colors. But my new house has a cream-colored carpet that is the kind where it's very smooth-looking and shows the direction of the vacuum marks and footprints and everything. Cleaning up cat puke on this carpet has been a nightmare!
My normal routine is to pick up the big stuff, then blot up as much as I can with paper towels. Then I spray on a carpet cleaner (I've tried carbona and another brand that I can't remember) and let it sit for a few minutes. Then I blot that up and rub a bit and try to fluff the carpet up a bit. But I'm still left with tan splotches in most cases, and some places it looks like the nap of the carpet is affected and not laying the same as the rest.
Anybody with this type of carpet have any suggestions? Or should I just give up and get new carpet installed?
Any way to train the idiot to puke only on the kitchen floor?
*The problem with the puking, by the way, is that the idiot gorges himself and eats way too much, then sits there for like two minutes and throws it up. So it's hardly even digested. A total waste of food... I've tried a few different brands, and nothing seems to change. It's not a sensitivity so much as a quantity issue. He only pukes when he eats too much too fast. Which is a few times a week. Of course, feeding him at set times each day wouldn't help, because then he'd gobble it all up at those times. I have the most trouble with him when I let the food bowls get empty and then refill them, and he eats like he's never seen food before in his life. Also, limiting the food wouldn't work so well for his brother, who is on the skinny side. The vet couldn't find anything wrong with him, either. So I just free-feed and try to keep the bowls full to discourage gorging.

Here I go...giving doggie tricks to cat people..lol! Try putting the food in a pie tin with a bowl in the middle turned upside down and the food spread around. It will slow down kitty's eating.
As for the carpet spots, I love my SpotBot for cleaning those little messes. Beware though, that one clean spot may make the rest of the carpet look like it needs cleaning too!

I don't know if there is any difference between the not-so-lovely presents ours pets leave for us to clean up, but I've found the best things are Spot Shot (industrial strenght - I get it from Sam's Club) and OxyClean (the original, not the "Versatile" which is full of soap) when my dogs do this. I will never again have carpet - if I could afford to replace it, mine would be gone.
A suggestion: All of the products you can buy to spot clean are full of soap (or detergent). They can make the carpet look great, but really attract dirt, so if you can get most of the soap out, it will stay looking cleaner for a longer period of timel.

Hi there. I don't have any advice on the carpet cleaning, we have no rug! However, I just thought I would suggest some feeding options. I have four cats, they get fed twice a day. They all have their own bowls with separate food amounts and I watch them to make sure no one gets greedy and eats someone elses food.

I agree with k9karen, I think a lot of it is just wetting the carpet down with nothing but water and suck up what ever comes up. There might just be detergent left there. When I did have cats and carpet(never a good mix lol) I used only vinigar after I took the big stuff away and washed the rest with only water and papertowels. I used the vinigar only and never really had any spots left. When we did find a spot that was left there for months(if was under something and when we moved furniture we "had" to clean it good) we used hot water in bowl with 1 drop of dawn(original) in it and a tooth brush. we just brushed over the spot gently with a toothbrush of the stuff little by little till the papertowels came out with no color on them. Ya know that red itcky color the cat food is.
I would also either try the bowl upside thing OR the feeding a few times a day with you watching. Even if its you just giving a few peices at a time, maybe 1/4 cup instead of 1/2 hten feed the other when kitty is done with that. You might want to look into a food that will help both of them. Being that one is thiner.

Hmm... I'll have to try the upside down bowl thing. Perhaps it will slow the idiot down a little. He's been doing okay for the past few days. Or at least, if he's been puking, somebody's been eating it before I've seen it!
I will probably just have to break down and spend an entire day working on the spots on my carpet with the water bottle. The problem is that can take quite a while. I think I have some oxyclean, too. I'll have to see if it's the right kind. I agree that generally just plain water is my favorite cleaner. It just seems to take forever on such a light-colored carpet. At least on my old carpet, I could fudge it a little.
