I took my cat to the vet recently for a small bump on her lower eyelash area. The vet believes it is a blocked follicle and recommended that I put a warm compress on her eye for a week. If it does not go away, we will have it removed.
Well my cat is not having it. I can barely keep the compress on her eye for 5 seconds. Does anyone have any suggestions or an alternative method? Thanks

try not to stress out the kitty so dont force the issue. Did the vet say what this was? Did he prescribe an antibiotic or an eye ointment? If not then call him back and say that the cat isnt having the compresses and you want to know what this is before he takes it off.

The cat is probably freaking out over having something placed over the eye. I know my cats will jerk their head way if when petting them my hand gets too near the eyes. Best I can offer is to wait until kitty is sleeping or just woke up and calm and then try it while talking quitely and keeping kitty calm.

Re: Warm Compress Techniques?
The vet thinks it is just a blocked folicle or a sty. She thinks that there may be some fluid that needs to come out and a warm compress would help with that. If it gets bigger or anything, then she would do a biopsy and remove it. No ointment or antibiotics were given, the vet did not think she would benefit from that.
I finally got her while she was laying down, sleepy. She doesn't let me hold it over her eye, but i can wipe it over the eye area a few times, take a break and do it again. I hope that is enough.
Thanks for your suggestions

Ok follicle not sure how i missed that (lol)
Ok this is what was told to do for my infants when they had a blocked duct/follicle. If kitty wont let you put the compress on it you can also just gently take your finger and massage it in that area. I know I know two different species LOL BUT the problem is the same and the treatment is basically the same. Oh an no babies dont like it either. LOL
If you were able to get the warm compress on that is great, between that and trying to massage it gently should help it. Good luck and remember if kitty is stressing stop and try again later. Kitty trusts you so you dont want to loose that.
