I went to let Sammie out and noticed a cat laying at the enterance to the shelter I built for them last fall...we had identical feral kittens born last summer, a boy and girl...the girl died ...I do not know what happened to her...but it was not an "easy" death for her and I feel awful about whatever happened to her...she had blood around her mouth and nose and a grimace on her face and her body was arched...maybe she went to the road, which they never did...and got hit...I don't know...
as far as I know they never eat anywhere but here, and I have a heated dish for water for them so they always have something to drink...they have shelter and the weather has been nice the last few days...none of our cars is leaking any fluids...I just don't know...
So I carried her body back the 3 acres to the stream at the end of our property and paid her to rest under a tree there...I figure she may as well feed other critters...then I got to thinking on the walk back...I hope she did not have an infection or disease that will pass on to them...but I did not go back for her...the snow out in the pasture is still mid-shin deep on me, so I "marched" the entire way there and back, plus I fell up the slope getting to the downward side to the creek, and slid on my butt all the way back down the slope to come back...so I pray that whatever caused her death is not contageous...
But the weather is gorgeous...I did not even have a jacket on...just my sweatshirt and I was sweating when I got back to the house...
I went and got the soaking wet shoes and socks off and I tossed the sweatshirt down to wash because I do not need to pass anything to the cats inside if she did die from a disease or infection...but she showed no signs or symptoms of being ill, either...I always look for that when I see them around and coming to eat...
Rest in peace and play free across the Rainbow Bridge gorgeous gray girl...

I'm very sorry, Tambrey........***tears***
However, you really should bury her body, for the exact reason you noted.

thanks Traci...I know I cannot save them all...especially the feral ones...but it still is sad all the same when one dies...especially one that has hung around here almost since birth....
Re: Little Gray Girl
