I need help picking a cat door?

Post by mom2idtwingirls »

Hi to everyone!
I am new here and hoping some fellow cat owners can help me to pick a good cat door. We are looking to install one in a metal/fiberglass type door in our mudroom for our two cats(Crazy and Fruitloop) We are looking for something that is durable, and will not let stray animals in our home, and will be weather proof and not let in lots of cold air. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. TIA

MY recommendation is INDOOR ONLY...
That is what we all on this board advocate for and recommend...

if you are looking for one so the cats can go into the mudroom, but not outside, then that is fine...but please do not let them go outside...at all...period...

Thanks for your reply, however I was not asking for an opinion on whether or not I should let my cats outside. I have had outdoor/indoor cats, always have my whole life. I don't believe in locking my cats in the house when they truley desire to be outside playing and hunting and being a cat. Perhaps you may not agree with that but that is your choice. Why not simply not respond to my question instead of trying to tell me you think your way is better than mine?

because since we do not advocate letting our cats outside...none of us have cat doors, therefore we cannot give you an opinion on which one to choose...

And it is not just my opinion and my way....it is one of the messages that this board advoactes for...

If you read the link I posted, you would know why...

Hey thanks for the warm welcome on to this forum. I thought this would be a nice place to chat with other animal owners and discuss topics. I have to say of all the places I have come to online for info and opinions this one is the most unfriendly. This message board does not advocate it-- but that does not mean everyone here that registers keeps their cats indoors. Sorry to offend the cat owners who don't let their kitties outside. I thought this board was open to all cat owners. There are many of us cat owners who do let their cats explore nature. I have read through the indoor only -- so what. You could have simply not answered but you chose too.

I am sorry if you feel you did not receive a warm welcome in regards to your question....you asked...I answered....and gave a reason why I answered such as I did...

we are all pet lovers here and want what is best for our critters....but we are also honest and sometimes too much "to the point" when giving answers...

When I first came here...2 or 3 years ago now...I know I had a few go-rounds with a few people over things...but since I kept coming back adn "got to know them" as much as you can in an online community...we have come to a mutual understanding and acceptance and I have learned alot along the way...

This forum is about education as well, and if you had read the House Rules, you'd have been aware of our position statements, indoors-only being one of them. Read some of the topics in the Feline Health section for all the valid reasons we strongly recommend keeping cats indoors only.

Anthropomorphizing is amoung the worst excuses, and we simply cannot and will not abscribe to it.

Does that mean we're rude? No, it means we care about cat health, safety and longevity and wish to educate about the dangers. Pet owners all too often wrongly assume their cats are going to always be safe in an outdoor environment. Unfortunately, they're wrong, and at horrible consequences for the cat.
