On Wednesday my son, who is still in Greater New Orleans. had to let dear Felicity go. Tuesday night the sweet old tortoiseshell reached the point where she fell off the couch and then could not stand for a time. Son and the vet discussed all the options and son made the brave decision - it's never easy but as I told him, he did the right thing.
Felicikitty (as I always called her) had a long and interesting life. (I will try to write up a longer bio later.) Born semi-feral in the late summer of '91, she was an outdoor kitten at the home of a cat-rescuing Lakeview family. Right after Christmas that year my son asked me to find a cat to give his then ladyfriend when she got back from Atlanta. I called all over town, finally located these people, who were willing to let me have the half-grown kitten if I checked out okay by their standards (which were quite reasonable for that pre-internet era LOL.)
They said the kitten was a born "boss cat" who told all the outdoor cats where to head in. Son's girlfriend named the kitten and kept her for a few months, then decided a cat was too much trouble for a busy woman's small condo - so Felicity became Son's cat.
Felicity was allowed outdoors some during the first years, until I forbade that, not just because of my birds, but because Felicity had two major accidents - one we think was a car, and one was from a fight with mean old male boss cat Oreo across the street... All the years my son and
I were next door neighbors there in Lakeview, that was the only thing I ever issued an ultimatum about. Once he and his cat both got used to the idea of "Indoors Only" they did fine.
There is some other NOLA news, not good either, but it also will have to wait until another time, another part of the board. Meanwhile, please keep we former dwellers on the South Shore of Lake Pontchartrain in your thoughts, okay?
