New kittens in the house- input needed

Post by MA »

Went to the grocery store and came home with three very sick kitties. :( The people giving them away, really need to #@#@@ never mind.

I put these little one at just under a month old. The mom (I was told was dying because her nipples were falling off!) :( They have eaten, I have tried to get them to poop with stimulation, but nothing. I will be taking them in first thing in the morning, but in the meantime anything anyone can offer as far as helping them eliminate their waste? I had to give them a bath as they are crawling with fleas, and they have a uri going on as well. Damn why don't people just spay and neuter and save all this heartache? They are upstairs in quarantine right now. Pure white with splashes of colors on their heads.

I reamed the people out who were giving them away. They thought I was nuts for taking them all- but as sick as they looked, i couldn't leave them in the night air. :(

you can try two techniques...first try rubbing the anus with a warm water cotton pledget, or insert a rectal thermometer with vaseline on it...either of these two might work and might not but they will do no harm

Thanks davet- we had litterbox action about 15 minutes ago! YAY!!!

Kitties have been playing and the one I was concerned with is perking right up. The people who had them were feeding them hot dogs when I walked up, so God only knows what is in their guts. I added a little bit of pure vegetable oil to their food and it worked. :)

And as you know, getting rid of the fleas is paramount too, use a flea comb, or at least gently comb them with water (and a drop or two of dish detergent like palmolive), you might have to do this again in the morning......keep them warm too, in the event URI's or anemia is concerning, til your vet can see them.

Oh geez, MA. Thank you for taking these little ones and getting them help. People are such flaming idiots...(i saw five kittens that looked to be 5 weeks old at the feed store today. Just broke my heart to see such tiny babies being given away....)

I hope your little ones will thrive and find good forever homes.

Thank you for being the wonderful person you are....the world is a better place for animals because of you. :D
