Unknown dog

Post by Tambrey »

I had to title it this way as I do not know much other than what I heard today...

a woman I work with is leaving to stay at her sister's in Texas for Christmas...she said the last time they were there (2 years ago) her sister and husband had a big dog that had already bitten 4 family members...since then they still have not done anything to work with the dog, train it, etc...nor has it had any vet care, shots, etc...

The woman I work with spoke with her mom today, and her mom had spoken to sister about the dog...husband said that if the woman at my work and her husband would take the dog to the vet, he will agree to have it put down, but he cannot do it...

Sooo...when my friend gets there, it will be her responsibility to take this dog for his final vet trip  she cannot bring him home with her...she already has 2 dogs of her own plus their brother's dog while he is stationed in Iraq...she does not have the time to work with this poor dog as he will need worked with, and the fact that he has bitten 4 people does not stand well for his stability...

He will not be with family when he crosses the Rainbow Bridge...he never got proper care or training or love while on this Earth, so I pray that he finds it once he crosses the Bridge, and that someone more deserving will come to greet him one day...

I'm sorry for saying this, but it's the owner's responsibility, not the sister. It sounds like the owner has taken too many "easy ways out", and to finalize this by getting the sister to do the final deed? Sorry, but shame on the owners. Shame on them for not getting the dog trained, vet care, etc. What exactly have they done to find a new home with an owner who would be comitted to this dog's training and care? How is this the fault of the poor dog? If I were the sister, I would flat out refuse, and I would educate the owners that this dog deserves a chance with training, and to get the dog vet care as needed.

I feel the same way Traci...the woman I work wiht is wonderful with her dogs...they go EVERYWHERE with her and her husband and are their kids...they get the best vet care and food and love and attention that any critter could ever ask for...
and the brother's dog is just as well mannered and taken care of...

So it is hard to figure out why the other sister ler her dog just go without love and attention and proper vet care and sociability skills...as you said, it is not the dogs fault that he was never trained properly from the beginning...

I hope that my friend and her husband, once they arrive there...will try to talk them into finding a proper home for the dog with someone who can properly train him and find him a good forever home...but I am not holding my breath on that...
