Please pray for Shannon
Please pray for Shannon
Shannon has taken a turn for the worse. She was rushed to the hospital and we are just now getting home. Shannon was admitted. She was doing wonderful. She gained her weight back and was playful and really loveable and yesterday she started having trouble climbing up on things and was staggering. She went to jump off the sofa and somersaulted across the room. She is on methimazole for her thyroid and her levels were fine. I thought maybe the meds being in her ear may have messed with her equlibrium but I don't know. She does have a heart murmur from the thyroid problem. She was due for more bloodwork before Christmas. I held her before we left the hospital and she was very passive (so unlike her!) I thought maybe she hurt herself running around the other night and playing with her toys. The change came so quickly! Please pray for Shannon. Thank you.

You've got em...praying for Shannon's recovery.
Re: Please pray for Shannon
Prayers it's nothing serious..is the vet doing full bloodwork, etc today? Did he mention getting an ECG done for her to rule out heart disease?
Shannon and you are in my thoughts and prayers, hang in there, and let us know what you find out?

Re: Please pray for Shannon
prayers that Shannon is doing much better and a cause can be found
Re: Please pray for Shannon
Thank you for the prayers. I really appreciate it and I know Shannon is feeling the love. I was able to bring her home. We have some problems that are all tied to her thyroid problem. We will give Shannon every chance we can and be with her. She is a true heart-cat. Thanks so much for all the prayers.
Re: Please pray for Shannon
Shannon had her T4 done today and I am making a call to the cardiologist for an appt. to have tests done. The murmur is a low grade murmer associated with the thyroid problem but we need to see if she might need some heart meds to prevent further damage. She is in a crate now and not very happy about it. Please keep praying for her. Thank you so much.
Re: Please pray for Shannon
Peg, Shannon remains in my thoughts and prayers, hopefully no serious heart condition, but glad to hear you're scheduling that appointment.
If she's too rambunctious or stressed in the crate, let her out of it, and try keeping her as calm as possible.

Re: Please pray for Shannon
Are there medications for heart conditions? I had a dog on digitalis for quite a while. I'm sure things have gotten better since then. Shannon is licking and cleaning her bad leg. Do you think the fall was from the osteoarthritis in her bad leg? It was smashed about 9 years ago before I took her in. They did see a large callous on the break in the x-rays.
Re: Please pray for Shannon
Yes, there are various medications for heart disease, your feline cardiologist can tell you more.
Yes, with any previous fracture or ligament rupture, arthritis can develop later on, or degenerative joint disease. This can be managed with alittle extra care at home like providing soft, warm bedding, gentle massage of the affected limb (only on your vet's advice), keeping weight managed and supplementing with a neutraceutical like Cosequin for Cats. X-rays should be taken yearly to monitor the inflammation or detect other problems.
