My Son ~ The Rescuer
My Son ~ The Rescuer
Well...we have yet another temporary addition to the household...DS was on his way home yesterday and saw this little black puppy running along the highway...his head is scarred and looks like some permanent bumps of some sort...and we still cannot decide if the one side of his head where the bump is, his right eye looks lower...he will not stay still long enough to look closely!!
and the end of his tail has no fur on it...
but he has a sweet temperament and loves to snuggle...
Vet checked him over and gave a deworming pill to us, which I will give him this weekend when we can be home with him...I do not need that mess for him to walk through if he does have them I want to hold off on shots until we know if DS dad is going to take him...then HE can pay for shots...of not, we will go ahead and do all of that with him...
DS is trying to talk his dad into taking him...his dad was mad and started yelling at DS...DS got mad and said he is never going to his dad's again...I talked to his dad and said that DS16 knows he likes black labs (not quite sure if that is what this one is, part but not all) and thought he might try to have a dog again, since Festus died a few years back...
I told him he has a totally unfinished concrete basement at his house where the puppy can be during the day while he is at work, and he said well it can still go up the stairs, and I said he can get a baby gate...I countered everyone of his "objections"... in the end he said he was sorry and wanted to talk to our son when he got home from his place...
He told our son he needs to think about the dog, and talk it over with his GF (maybe fiancee soon?!) and let him know this weekend...
anyways...here are a couple of pics I took this evening when we had him in the living room with us

Tambrey- all I know is that any stray animal who finds it's way to your family is lucky. He is cute.

Did your vet check for external parasites? (i.e., loss of fur on tail tip) What did he say about the eye? (i.e., was it dry, or tearing, etc)
Regardless of who's going to take the puppy, I'd get his first vaccination series promptly, he needs the protection.

no parasites...but I watched puppy, who has since been named Squirt, chasing his tail in play lastnight and kept nipping at the end of it, every time he saw it out of the corner of his eye, he was after it...so I wonder if he has just licked or chewed the fur off himself...
as for the eye, it does not tear excessively or seem dry...they both look fine, just the one seems a bit lower on his head...the same side (right side of his body)that looks to be either deformed a bit or like someone hit him really hard...
I do wonder how well he sees from it though, because a couple of times I have had my hand on tht side of him, nearby, and he will not turn his head to see, but he will if I do the same on the left...
he needs to put on a bit of weight, though...even though he is extremely stocky and thick legged, his chest is very wide, but then it sinks in at his belly and you can almost see hipbones and can feel ribs easily enough when he is standing, you cannot tell in the pics of him laying there with hubby...we are feeding him SD Puppy kibbles, not too much at one time becuase tht first night he gorged himself and got sick at both ends due to a change of food, plus just eating too much at once...so we are feeding smaller meals throughout the day and evening...

Since you have so many animals, I wouldn't take any risks, get him back to your vet for a more thorough exam and first puppy vaccination series.

He's absolutely precious, Tambrey... I dunno what it is about him, but I want to hug him and love him forever. It must just be the inevitable puppy cuteness.
Re: My Son ~ The Rescuer
here are some of the latest pics of Squirt
These first 2 are just of him lazing about...
the last 2 are of his mouth...I just find it strange that his bottom jaw is so far inside of his top jaw...they are a bit hard to see, but he is hard to keep still!!

Re: My Son ~ The Rescuer
thanks, we think so too...we were going to find him a home...but I think he has found one here...another mouth to feed...and his will be a BIG mouth!!
and he is really good with the cats and Sammie...and when he and Ceileigh get together...they really rough and tumble about...give each other a good wearing out!!
Is that a concern with his lower jaw so far inside of his upper jaw? I bet his lower teeth are a good fingerwidth behind his upper teeth when he closes his mouth...

I can't really make out the second pic,...although the first pic looks natural.
Without seeing for certain, I'd suggest getting him examined and making sure he doesn't have an overbite, teeth are coming in properly etc.
