Need Help

Post by Izie81 »

I posted this on another cat lover's post about a kitten vomiting but I am reposting my own just incase I don't get a responce.
My 9 month old kitten is throwing up. He is eating but he continues to throw it back up. I took him to the vet and he felt his stomach and looked at his mouth and ears. He told me that Baby has a hairball that won't come up and gave me Laxatone (tuna flavor) it seems to make him stop throwing but he does everytime he eats. I am going to take him back to the vet on monday. Baby lost so much weight that I can feel his backbone, I tried to "faten" him up by feeding him Fancy Feast canned food and he seemed to keep it down until earlier he just throw it back up. Do you have any sugestions or anything that I might ask my vet to do? When I first got Baby and his brother, Fluffy, they were sick with respiratory problem but they got better. Actually for about a month Fluffy was throwing up but he stopped and then Baby started to but he just seems to get worse.

Get your kitten back to your vet immediately. The constant vomiting and weight loss is concerning!!

It could be nearly anything from intestinal parasites to an obstruction, your vet needs to get serious and rule things out immediately...if your vet didn't offer any testing or an xray, and didn't bother to address anything, you need to see a new vet right away, preferrably no later than tommorow first thing. For every ounce/pound of weight loss, increases the risk for liver problems, do not wait on this, get your kitten to a new vet first thing tomorrow morning. Both kittens may also need to be dewormed properly by the vet if this hasn't been done before. Also get both kittens tested for FELV/FIV.

Stop feeding Fancy Feast, it isn't appropriate, and your kitten is probably sensitive to the oils and ingredients in it. Feed only a high quality kitten food (i.e., Hill's Science Diet, Iams or Eukanuba kitten food) and preferrably in dry form. A new vet can determine if a new diet needs to be initiated, based on his exam etc.

Again, don't wait, it could be more serious than what it appears, since the other kitten was also vomiting for some time, this needs to be addressed properly by a competent vet, pronto.

Look in your phone book for vet clinics who appear to have been established for several years, are affiliated with the AAHA and preferrably are a feline-only vet clinic, also have emergency services available.

Btw, Your avatar needs to be reduced to no more than 120x120 pixels, and the file size no larger than 4-6 kb. If you have a photo-editor on your pc, you can probably get both cats on one pic and still have it appear nice and visible.

Thanks, I will look in the phonebook. I am going to fix my avatar right now. I'm not very good with computers but I will try to make it smaller.
