Unluckily, I don't have the prescriptions with me...and I don't recall the names of the medicine...I think they were daytril and prednisone ... or something like that. One of the prescriptions is supposed to be taken once a day until the medicine is gone. The other is a sliding scale, start with 2 pills nightly, then after a period of time, down to one pill nightly, the down to one pill every other day. From what I understand, the shot was supposed to help relieve the itching if that tells you anything.

The vet also gave me flea medicine for the Queen, but told me not to use it until I was 100% positive that the Queen wasn't nursing anymore. (I don't think she's nursed the kittens for a week or two). The kittens were born Sept 1.

I haven't seen any indication that the Queen still has fleas, which was initially very apparent (she's a short hair). She wants to weigh the kittens before doling out the dose of flea medicine. Since I already have the house visit schedule for Wed, she's going to take care of all their needs at one time...bloodwork, fleas, worms etc. Once we determine if the Queen is healthy, we'll get the proper vacinations and have her spayed.

My vet said the same thing on over-the-counter flea medicine...she hates that it's even available. Doesn't work. Can be harmful. Gives people a false sense of security.

I'll heed your advise on cleaning.

Baytril?

The prednisone is an antiinflammatory, might be useful if this is in fact, flea allergy dermatitis, but I'd be sure to ask her to rule out other possible causes (such as food allergy, etc)

You're right it was Baytril. The meds are working wonders. It's really quite amazing on how quickly the skin problems cleared up.

On another happy note, the bloodwork came back on the the queen and she's a-ok.

All of the cats/kittens had flea treatment, and were treated for worms.
