Ding, ding..got the solution to giving meds at odd times. Just gave her the 3rd dose for today (it's midnight)...put it in a saucer with a couple Tbsp of canned dog food...she was in a sound sleep, but ate it eagerly. No fussing with eating cheese and spitting out meds, or shoving it down her throat. It was easy... :D We are all happy...g'night!

Aren't dogs wonderful. Put the nastiest pill into food, and most of them will gobble it down. I've known a few fussy ones who could smell the pill and wouln't eat the food it was in, or would eat the food and spit out the pill (Leah did that occassionally), but all of mine are easily fooled.

Glad to hear you found an easy solution! :D

Sigh, she quit eating again. So now the Vet is thinking that some antibiotics just make her feel sick. He said he can't take erythromyacin for that reason. He's testing her blood, and I will put her back on canned k/d instead of dry. We're hoping we can put her back on the meds in a few days. At least I know what to watch for and stop the meds immediately if needed.

I'm sorry to hear she isn't eating again. It does seem that older dogs go through stages like that. Both Leah and Mickey did. I had trouble with Clavimox doing that to Angel, so we try not to use it any more. Hope the blood work is OK - let us know!

Blood test shows that her kidney values are OK, but her RBC count is very high again...the same thing that happened with the nitrofurantoin. So there was a good reason for her to be feeling bad. Seems like anything that will help fight the e coli, she can't handle. So we'll stay off the chloramphenicil for a week, and maybe try it at a lowered dose, or 1 week on and 1 off...depending on the next blood test.

Oh, I'm sure that won't be too far away! Maybe the danged things will mutate into something a more common drug will take care of...I can only hope!
