My dog got hit by ???
My dog got hit by ???
Today my dog got hit; I don’t know if it was by a bike or a car, I just know he’s hurt really bad. My mom lets him out every morning to do his business but today he took long to come back, and when my mom went to look for him he was on the ground and couldn’t move. Right now he’s inside the house on his bed; I can’t take him to the vet right now. He is bruised on his right paw. He can’t stand on his hind legs, and he also has some minor scratch there too. And he released a drop or two of blood through his penis. I am worried that he might be internally bleeding. He can’t walk but he seems ok. if you know some information or if this has happened to you please let me know. I want to give him children’s Motrin for the pain but I don’t know if I should
Please find someone to help you get your dog to a Vet...it does sound like something internally. We can't diagnose, only a Vet can.
Do NOT give Motrin to your dog...I can't emphasize that enough!
Edited to add that your dog can't walk, but seems OK...No your dog is not OK...consider this an emergency and find a way.

Emergency vet, RIGHT THIS MINUTE! Pets hit by a car often suffer internal injuries that are not obvious to you upon simply looking. Many organs can be punctured, filled with blood or air or hemorrhage without you even realizing it. Shock is also a major concern, any animal hit by a car demands emergency veterinary attention! The first 6-8 hours are the most critical for the most effective treatment in any trauma, you cannot wait. The inability to get up or walk is probably related to broken pelvis or other major bones, and infection sets in quite rapidly, not to mention the excruciating pain.
NO Motrin, NO human pain-killers, aspirin or anything of the sort! Get your dog to an emergency vet RIGHT NOW.

Re: My dog got hit by ???
agree with all the above and emphasize what Traci said about internal injuries can't tell by just looking.
Re: My dog got hit by ???
Thank you all for your help. I took him to the vet the day after. They took X-rays and did a full checkup. Thankfully he’s not internally bleeding or has any major life threatening injuries. The X-ray’s show some tear in the bone on his elbow. And the surgery to put some plates is over $1,100. And since we don’t have that kind of money the doctor said to just let him rest and get better on his own, but he will limb forever after he recovers. I got him some painkillers at the vet and he seems to be doing much better; he walks and tries to do normal activities. Once, again thank you all for your support.
That's him before he got injured

Buz6 glad to hear dog is ok.is there anyway you can raise the money. Ask a friend or family?
Keep him restricted in his activities so he doesnt hurt himself further. Please keep an eye on him.
I am glad you took him to the vet.

Did your vet talk to you about making payment arrangements? Most vets will work out a payment arrangement as long as you can at least leave a reasonable deposit on the surgery. You could also call other vets in your area to get price quotes on the surgery. My concern is that if the bone is not set or stabilized, there is risk for further injury, or, that over time, degenerative joint disease will be a concern for your dog (this is a painful, oftentimes debilitating condition).
And, please, consider getting a fence put up in your yard to help prevent this from happening again.

Glad to know you were able to take him to the vet and he is doing better
I am with Traci...try to talk to the vet about payment options and do the surgery if possible...
A few years back, my mom's dog was hit by a car...her injury was a broken compound fractured femur, which the vet tried to stabilize with plates and pins and a splint that wrapped up around her hip...but even after 4 months, the bones were not setting and he had to amputate the leg...
If surgery is not done, it could possibly break further, or even if it does heal incorrectly, it could cause constant forever pain that he will have to endure...
