As I have posted, late last night 6-year-old Serge got out of his yard and was hit by a slow-moving car. It could be seen that he had some damage to his front teeth and to his right front leg, but he seemed all right otherwise, and the same was true by morning; but his family got him in to a vet as soon as they could. Xrays and examination showed no broken bones or discernible internal injuries. The dog remained quiet and friendly, not rowdy as usual but not in severe pain or discomfort.
After several hours of observation, the doctor said Serge could be brought to my apartment, which has some lawn space and no deck or steps, and she was instructing me as to how to give Serge the meds she was prescribing, what to feed him, etc. But then she said she wanted to do another test re the tooth situation. She came back a few minutes later and said, well, at least one tooth is going to need to be excised; he will have to be anethesticized (sp?) and we do not anesthethize for 24 hours because after being injured, some dogs will develope heart arhythmia (sp?) ... so it would be best if Sergio stayed with them overnight and we could take him to his regular vet in the morning. So that is what we agreed to do.
Later this evening when my DD checked with the ER vets, Serge had developed severe diarhea - from the meds he is being given or something else I do not know. I am lending my old Aerostar to DD tomorrow (her Dodge pickup is too high to lift the dog into) so she can transport Serge from the hospital he is in to the other vet's office, a few blocks away. That is all I know right now.

Re: Sergio the golden retriever
I sure hope all is OK. The diarrhea could just be a stress response or even unrelated to the accident, so hopefully is nothing serious. Please let us know how he's doing. Hope he's back to normal soon.

Sending prayers and healing vibes for Sergio.
I am not sure how I missed this post, or your earlier one, but he has our best going for him!

Our big old Golden Boy is fine! Was on IV fluids all night and went to his regular vet this morning.... still has not had the tooth or teeth removed, but has adjusted so can groom himself as usual and is not doing the uncomfortable "clidking" like yesterday - so they xcan wait on that.
DD has gone to get my grandson from after-school care; SiL has taken my old van to get new windshield wipers, tires checked etc. etc. Serge is to go on home with his family tonight, but will be staying with me daytimes for awhile beginning tomorrow - kind of a break for both of us: he can keep me company and I can see he stays quiet and gets mid-day meds etc.
The other good news is that BOTH cats are comfortable with him: I knew Q would be, as they lived in the same house last year, and both of them were friends with `Eowyn - and of course Serge lives with FOUR kitties himself! But finding that my new cat Pinto is totally cool and unfreaked is lagniappe ("something extra" ) as we say over in Louisiana...
