Re: This is What I Will Be Doing...
Munkie has started to attempt to eat gruel...
He spent all day Tuesday at the vet because I had an all day meeting at the school, and no one would be home to feed him...he had his own "personal attendant" as the small animal vet's 9 (almost 10) year old daughter was in with him for the day shadowing the veth tech...
Of course, Munkie had his bottle and formula, but I had not started the stage 2 weaning formula yet...but they did...mixed with a bit of baby formula and a small dab of IAMS canned kitten food...he ate some...so soon we will be off the bottle altogether...we have been doing a bit more, plus whatever is left in the lid I am using for a digh right now, I am leaving it with him in his box for a while after I leave him alone...
He also got a minute dose of Strongid (?) for worms...he did not poop while he was there, so they could not actually test, but it is a given to go ahead and do that anyways...

He's so cute- it looks like his foot is ok. Does it walk on it normally?
Re: This is What I Will Be Doing...
yes, thanks...his foot is doing great....you would never know that it had been turned under like it was
I was looking back and saw this that Traci wrote
He will probably be a big boy when he is grown...I have a few of them already...what is one more...hahaha
When he was at the vet the other day, they could not believe he was not quite a month yet!!...they said he was very big...but I know for sure when he was born because the mom was in that planter giving birth and even 4 hours later when I took him, his fur was still a bit matted and dampish...and the one she smothered was still in its sac...Maybe it's just the pic, but he looks older than just a day old?

Re: This is What I Will Be Doing...
Munkie is getting soooo big
He is almost weaned off the bottle...he still likes it for comfort in the morning so I give him a little bit in it...but mostly he is eating a mixture of weaning stage 1 to stage 2...and he was still just not into it, but since I have been adding a small amount of Science Diet canned kitten food and making a soupy gruel he laps it right up!!
We will be going away for 3 days next week, and the girl who lives above the vet's office is going to babysit...she is soooo excited...she comes to the library every day where I work, and loves to see how Munkie is doing...and I trust her totally with him, because the vet's do...in exchange for a lower rent, she does night feedings and basic care for the animals that are boarding there...then the vets or assistants do not need to come in...unless someone needs medicated or treated beyond her ability to do so...
She has been going to nursing school, but our community college is offering for the first time a veterinary assistant program and she is thinking of transferring...
I know he will be in good hands while I am gone...
and she will also be taking care of Ceileigh in the boarding part of the vet clinic as well...

Munkie is getting so big! I can't believe it's been over a month since you found him. The young girl in nursing school may be shocked to find the difference in salary between the two professions. I certainly don't want to discourage anyone from becoming a vet assistant (my neice is working to become a vet tech, but she's working and doing it on-line, so it's slow), but the starting nurse will probably make more than twice as much. Here, they start at at least $25 per hour, and that doesn't include weekend or shift differentials that can add $8 or more to it. I really have no idea about the salary for vet assistants, but I know it's low (at least here). We had a lab assistant working for us who was a vet tech (not assistant) and found she could make more as a lab assistant when she moved here from one of the western states (I think Colorado, but I don't remember for sure), and our lab assistants/phlebotomists average only about $10 per hour. Being happy in your chosen profession is a very good thing, but she needs to really investigate all the ramifications of making the change. If I knew her, I'd encourage her to continue in nursing school, work for a while and set aside some money, and then go to vet school. But I don't know her circumstances or if that's even feasible.
Munkie is really a cutie!
