Hi everyone!
Both my cats have been doing very well....but my 1 year old little girl, Isis, had started limping. We made an appointment to see the vet, they examined her and gave her an X-ray.
The vet found that her (back right) knee must have suffered some trauma or some sort because her kneecap dislocated and has moved to the side of her leg. I forgot what they called it.....a "something" patella.....I forgot the name.
The vet said it is at a Stage 3, where it is still fixable. If it gets to Stage 5, the scar tissue could bind the kneecap right where it is and it wont be fixable.
They told me this would require surgery and that it would cost $1000 to $1200 to do. I don't have that kind of money right now....it would probably take over a month to save uo for that.
I called a few places and they said that price is the going rate for that sort of surgery. Does anyone have any recommendations? Should I call around some more to see if I might find places that take payments? Are there any places that might be more likely offer low cost services?
My credit is not that great, otherwise I would have gotten this done already. I am very concerned about my lil' cat and want to get her all fixed up as soon as possible.
I need to get pet insurance but it is a little too late for this situation.
Thanks for any help you might have....[

Unfortunately, luxating patellar surgery is expensive, but it's worth it because it is corrective.
Talk to your vet about making payment arrangements, most vets will make these arrangements with you, as long as you are gainfully employed and/or can leave post-dated checks and/or at least a fair deposit amount on the surgery.
Sell something of value if necessary, ask family for help, whatever you can do. Luxating patellars are very painful and can cause degenerative problems later on if they are not corrected right away. I would, however, at least try to get a second opinion from a qualified vet to ensure this is in fact, luxating patellar (chances are, it is). But don't waste time on this, if kitty requires surgery, best that it is done right away. Also ensure that the vet is a qualified surgeon and do thoroughly discuss post-op and pain management, this is paramount!

Ahhh thank you for replying!!!!
Luxating patella is exactly what they called it. I was able to see the Xrays and saw how the kneecap was not in place....poor baby.......
I am going to call some more places and see what I can do. There has to be a way....but I am going to make sure this is done asap......because you are right, they DID mention that if something isn't done soon, it will cause bigger problems later.
I'll keep you all posted via this thread and come back if I have any more questions....
My poor little Isis.
