Re: Litter box help!
I tried the TidyCat small spaces, and there was a ton of smell, so that's why I switched to the Arm and Hammer. I've always used the unscented varities, because the additional scents give me headaches. Maybe I'm just very sensitive to the smells? I don't know. I'd just do anything to have something be truly odor-absorbant.
Re: Litter box help!
Traci, I was happier with the Tidy Cats for small spaces than I was with the Tidy Cats for multiple cats (all scoopable). But I was getting tired of the tracking mess and thought to give this Tidy Cats tidy lock a try. The tracking is not that bad and aside from the citrus smell I thought the small spaces litter had, this smell isn't overly powerful with the fragrance and seems to mask the odors.
slvrwhispr, I have nine cats, 6 boxes and don't get knocked out by odors. Are you sure your cat checks out medically okay?? I'm very sensitive to smell as well.

Re: Litter box help!
Haha, Traci, try sending someone's husband out to get that specific product... sounds like the kind of thing my DH's eyes would glaze over at the sound of...
Izzy had a UTI/bladder infection a while back, but the smell's been nasty before and since, even after the vet gave her a good bill of health. I think I'm probably just too sensitive to it. I have a hard time with all manner of strong smells, so I guess it's just up to me to try to find something that agrees with my nose. We're going shopping tomorrow, so I'll see what I can find.

Re: Litter box help!
Well, standard disclaimer: you might want to get her seen again, get a new urinalysis done. Some cats are predisposed to reocurring UTI's, you want to determine that Izzy is not. (she's spayed, right?)

Re: Litter box help!
The last urinalysis wasn't that long ago (less than two months), and there hasn't been any change in anything since then. If I thought for a second she might be sick, I'd run her over there. Especially since, as I learned, she is NOT SHY about letting me know when she's not feeling well. She has no qualms about peeing on everything I own to make sure I know when she's in pain. Plus, the first sign I had that she was sick was frequency in urination, and that hasn't been happening. I really think it's just the smell of the wet LITTER that's bothering me, and has less to do with the cat.

Re: Litter box help!
Alrighty. I ditched the Arm and Hammer stuff; it wasn't the flushable kind, it was... something basic. But it was unscented. I went to the pet store yesterday and stared at the different kinds of litter for so long that I think the people who worked there thought I couldn't read or something, lol. Eventually I settled on Scoop-Away. It's unscented, maximum strength, with some sort of guarantee for better clumping.
The thing I noticed immediately is that the Scoop-Away is a lot less clay-like than the Arm and Hammer. The A&H stuff wasn't a clay litter, but it sort of had that consistency. The Scoop-Away has much bigger granules. And, lo and behold, it actually clumps! Not that the A&H didn't, but the clumps would stick to everything. With Scoop-Away, no sticking! And because I don't have to chisel 'em out, there's nothing left in the box after I scoop! Which means... NO STINK!!! I'm so happy, you don't even know... LOL.
The only downside to the Scoop-Away is that it's really kind of dusty. It's not as bad as bargain-basement litters, but there's still a bit of a cloud that has to dissipate after filling the box. I don't notice any dust when Izzy's in there, or when I scoop, so I'm not really worried. I just have to be careful when pouring it from the box.
Anyway, litter box trauma resolved! Just thought you'd all like to know.

Re: Litter box help!
I was at Sam's the other day, needed litter, so grabbed their Member's Mark Litter Clean...35 # for about $8 something...I swear...this stuff is GREAT...
As you know, I have multiple cats and of course even with multiple boxes, there is ONE they ALL prefer and that one gets icky really FAST...if I miss even one day, it all has to go and start over again...
Well, I cleaned them and added this new litter Friday evening...was gone ALL day Saturday and ended up coming home sick and right to bed Saturday night...no litterbox duty for me...
Finally got up and moving sometime this afternoon and kept putting off litterboxes because I knew they would be yucky...but even their favourite one just scooped right out...no goop on the bottom or anything...and no smell!!
this is my new favourite litter!!

Re: Litter box help!
Is it Sam's Club brand? Because we have a CostCo membership, not Sam's Club.
Re: Litter box help!
No, I don't think it is the Sam's brand...I will see if I can find out for you...
I could not find it on their website....do you have a Sam's nearby...and a friend with a membership?
