We are thinking of adopting a kitten or older cat. Would a female be best for Honeybun. I would rather have a female than male. Advice from you experienced cat owners - Traci ( I know you have a lot of kitties)!!
What is a good age to adopt for Honeybun to have a playmate, friend. She is now 5 years old.
Thanks, Mona

Re: New Kitten and Honeybun
Normally, I would say the gender doesn't truly matter, but in Honeybun's case, I'd say female. As for age of the kitten/cat, I don't think it matters, as long as if a kitten, she is old enough to defend herself, LOL. And of course, you know me, adopting an adult is always a good idea too, maybe closer to Honeybun's age, simply for tolerance and companionship in age.
If you mean what is a good age for Honeybun...truly, that doesn't matter either, anytime! But, trust your instincts, and take into consideration the extra time you'll need if you adopt a kitten (kitten-proofing your home, spending extra time with both kitties, introduction periods, etc)

I agree with Traci all the way....I've adopted both a kitten and an adult cat into my house in the past few years. In my case I found the kitten was easier to introduce, but that also depends on Honeybun's temperment. Well, actually now that I think about it, Willow wasn't too difficult to introduce...but for some reason she became a target after being here a few months. I relate part of it to her age....Good luck with your decision...can't wait to hear what you decide

Thanks Traci and Tina!!
I may look at an older kitty. or at least 6 months on up in age.
Honeybun is quite the diva, set in her ways etc. She is not a lap cat, and likes her own space. I am thinking a cat completely the opposite would be
good, if I can find one. There are so many in need of homes.

This is strictly from what I've read and NOT from experience but from what I've seen written out there, you should look for a cat with a compatible personality to your existing pet, not opposite.
If your cat is calm and settled, introducing an energetic clown may not be appreciated.
