I'm just loving this! My daughter and I were just talking today about how we enjoyed fostering kittens. Sounds like he is doing great! Keep up the good work :)

Thanks Tina...he is doing really well...but I think a bit constipated this evening...he had a little bit in the box whe I went to feed him the last time, and his belly was firm after eating, and he was whiny, but he never went poop...
I am going to check on him before I go to bed...which is soon...

anyways...this is from the last feeding...getting a belly rub, of course...
a recent picture of Munkestrap...Munkie for short...his right eye is beginning to open...I can see the light glistening off of it :)....

I have told hubby for years that the next tuxedo cat would be Mr. Mistofilees, but since he is not a tuxedo, but rather a grey (or silver) tabby with white on his face...then Munkie it is...

Poor Munkie has had a rough couple of days with loose stools all of a sudden...they are not a good consistency like before and his little bottom is sore... :(

So we go through this step now....I remember doing this with my ones 2 years ago too... not fun for either of us :(

Could it be because his digestive system is changing to be more firm....or I just thought....do they get like this when they teeth?..I cannot remember and he has been doing alot of fingertip and nipple gnawing the past couple of days....

*sighs*...I feel so sorry for his little bottom :( and if he does not get regular soon, we will be going to the vet for more than a weigh-in

I wouldn't wait to get him seen, get him in today (with the weekend, you can't take chances). He may need to be dewormed, your vet can give him a small dose of strongid-T. Remember, with diarrhea/soft stools, comes dehydration, you can't risk that. Your vet can weigh him and assess his body condition.

It's too early for him to be having teething problems, so doubtful it's his teeth.

I thought it was early for teething too, but he is doing ALOT of chewing on my fingertips and the nipple of the bottle is getting gummed to death, and he was doing some drooling while he was gnawing this morning...whiney too, but as soon as he starts to gum my fingertip, then he is fine...

I have him here at work with me, of course, and will keep an eye on him throughout the day...the vet office is just the hnext block down if I need to get him there, elsewise, I will stop in after work and have them check him and see about a small does of worming meds...
ummm...dumb question...but are they born with worms?...Since I got him at 4 hours old and his mom realyl had no contact other than birthing him....well, I guess she cleaned him up, so something could come from that...never mind!!

He is doing well otherwise...just the loose stools and of course his little bottom is getting sore from that...so extra soft cottons and tissue to dry up with and a light coating of vaseline to help with that around his legs and tummy...

Yes, kittens can be born with worms, it's for this reason (and prophylactic/preventative) to deworm all newly aquired kittens (and pups).

If he's nibbling on your fingers, he may be requiring a bit more formula during each feeding, also check the nipple and make sure it isn't ripped, or has any sharp tears in it, these tears can really hurt a sensitive mouth.

I wouldn't use the vaseline, it can trap heat and bacteria, so use a cool, moist cotton ball or gauze pad instead but don't over-dry the area. Your vet may suggest using K-Y or may give you a small tube of soothing ointment to use temporarily. You don't want to use anything that causes drying of the skin or that traps heat or bacteria.

We could not get in to see the small animal vet Friday...he not there...but Munkie is doing well...stools are firming a bit again..but he still strains to get what seems just a little bit out...so we will go back tomorrow and see what is going on there...and get a tad of that worming meds for him...he will be 2 weeks old tomorrow...and the large animal vet did not want to take guesses...

He is eating on average 4 teaspoons of formula each feeding now...about every 4 hours...and wandering about alot more and making more noise!!...He LOVES to nuzzle and lick my ears...hahaha...he is not happy until he gets to snuggle against my face after each feeding and potty...and of course he still loves his belly rubs...

I gave him another bath today, as he is starting to wander to the far corner of his box and go bathroom there...so I will fix up a smaller box in there with a bit of clay litter for him...if he is going to do that, he may as well get used to litter...but he cannot turn around to clean himself after he goes..he does try, but his little pear belly and still a bit uncoordinated legs just will not allow him to turn taht far yet...so his tail and belly were yucky...

a few inches of warm water and a few drops of baby shampoo in the bathroom sink and he LOVES it...he was purrrrring while I held his bottom in there to clean and also got under his chin and along his chest...he even rolled over in my hands, in the water, for a belly rub!!...
I decided to try rinsing him by holding his bottom under the running water, and he turned to play with it...so I may, once in a while just put some plain water in the sink and let him splash about since he seems to enjoy it so much...
The KY jelly is helping tremendously with his bottom as well...it is not all red and sore looking like it was starting to get and he is much happier...

So tomorrow we stop in before work, since they open and 7, and get that straining checked out and some meds for whatever is necessary...

I will let you know how things go...

You are such a good mommy! I love hearing about the little guy. will look and see if you posted any new pics, but if not that is understandable...much time to just take care of him on top of everything else.
