What to with a heated cat?
What to with a heated cat?
This message board has been extremely helpful already, and I think it will be so again. I think my cat is in heat. She yelps like mad, at times only when she's not in my presence, about two days out of every 7-9 days. Does this sound like she's in heat? I think she's about a year old (I got her from the street). Apart from making little kittens (I never let her out in my fairly sizable eighth floor apartment), should I have her fixed for her own comfort? She's still a bit wild, which is something I like about her. I don't want her to become totally dulled out and much less wild if her *beep* organs are stilled. What do you all think? Thanks for any help you can give.

Thank you for your response. I have another question, though. I want to have the surgery done just three days before I will be gone for two weeks. I plan to have the cat live alone in my apartment with someone checking in on her every three days to keep up the food and water and replace the kitty litter. What do you think about all of this? Thanks for your help.

I wouldn't recommend leaving her right after she is spayed...if any complications arise then no one is there to get her to the vet and that could be a serious problem. Wait until you can watch her for at least a week or two following the surgery
