Dog (and Cat) Days of Summer

Post by Tambrey »

I thought it might be fun to take some pics of our pets trying to stay cool or lolling about...

this is Callie sprawled on the end of the dining room table where a fan is blowing cool air from the living room into the dining room...no central air here, just a window A/C

thank you..she is also very smart...she is the one who plays with the answering machine to hear the voices...figured out the water cooler and most recently has figured out how to open the bread drawer...

Now if I could get her to use the litterbox...maybe I can toilet train her and she would probably flush also!!...hahaha

Here is one hot momma!

This was actually a year ago in Arizona. I was fostering Kit Kat who had 4 beautiful little Siamese kittens (Gummi Bear, Snickers, Reeses Pieces, and, umm.... hmm... guess I'll have to think about this some more). She got so hot with the carpeting that every time I opened the door she would head out to lay on the tile floor in the bathroom, leaving the kids alone. So I brought up the two extra tiles I had left over in the basement, and she spent most of her time laying on them.

Here are her kids, all brand new, too.

Yeah... the babies came out two blue points and two seal points. Very pretty. Apparently the points are caused by genes that are temperature sensitive, which is why they show up on only certain parts of the body (the cooler areas). So when the babies are born, they come out without points because in utero they were exposed to a consistent temperature all over.

Kit Kat was a stray that was hanging out around a women's shelter, and they had named her there. So obviously, the names for the babies came easy. Aha.... Just remembered the 4th name... Raisinette. Gummi Bear and Snickers were the seal points, and Reeses and Raisinette were the blue points.

My boys now don't seem to be having any trouble staying cool. I've got a garden level unit, so it stays cooler here than if I were above ground. Mostly, I've been having to kick them off of me, because they are all laying on me and then I get hot, but they don't seem to mind.

Beautiful pics of all the kitties!!

Only one I could find of the lazing around this summer was of Willow. I had a sleeping bag piled on one of the bunks in the back and she found it, crawled up into the dark "cave" and went to sleep...of course when I went back with the camera she woke up. Still cute as ever though!

These pics are all great! Such beautiful kitties! I cover my couches with sheets when it's hot in an attempt for a cooler surface. Here's my Keeks who can be found belly up against the back of the couch when it's one degree above her liking.
