Gave wrong dog Soloxine........

Post by LisaK »

I just knew I would do this sooner or later............I gave my other dog a .2mg soloxine instead of the one it was intended for. I imagine this is not a big deal, but I wanted to make sure. Should I make her throw it up?

Lisa, I would call your Vet and ask him. Does he have an anwering service? IF so then call. Soloxine is for your dog with Hypothyroidism. The precautions on the insert for Soloxine says;

Precautions: Administer with caution to animals with clinically significant heart disease, hypertension, or other complications for which sharply increased metabolic rate might prove hazardous.

Although your other dog might not have any problems it DOES NOT say what to do if administered to a healthy dog. I dont know when Traci (she is the one i woudl ask) will be in so dont wait and call Vet and ask him right away.

I would rather be over cautious then under. Let me know what dr. says.

Yes, I forgot to mention that Soloxine is for hypothyroidism. The dog who rec'd the pill is young and has no medical problems.

Thanks, the dog is young and has no medical problems but I will call my vet's answering service anyway. A former vet tech on another board said my dog will be fine.

There's little chance of it causing any problem if it was only administered once, and in a low dose.

one thing I might add, ,, most dog pills are based on twenty pound increments so usuallthe pill given is for twenty pounds of dog, plu or minus a few...If the were a human pill which might have been based on 100 pound units, this would be a different story..if a pup takesa a human adult pill that cold be a problem...

just an after thought but you giving it to the wrong dog is a little unique but i used to get phones calls, sometimes late at night where the human took the dogs pills...all I needed at 3 AM
